That was a hard watch in the second half 21:57 - Oct 25 with 3585 viewstextbackup

Defended like monsters though.
Totally different game from the first half where we dominated… the difference in Hirst first to second was huge, nothing stuck to him in the second, and I fear how wasteful he can be (that said excellent for the goal!)

Huge 3 points after a long time off

If it's any consolation, it was a bloody hard listen those last 20 or so minutes.

Great win nonetheless.

We have no village green, or a shop. It's very, very quiet. I can walk to the pub.

I think the difference between knackered Hirst and Scarlett was huge too - really a game where we needed Ladapo to come on and bully their defenders and make the ball stick.

The fact they'd not played for a while showed. However the grit to deal with it was excellent. Ball a great player to have to see out time.

I’m still yet to see ‘that’ moment from Scarlett when I think ‘yeah there is a player there’

Tricky as he’s getting little time, I’m sure KM sees enough to know there is a player there though!

The game had it all really. Sometimes a 1-0 win with some resolute defending is more exciting than a 3-0 pumping. Bristol are a much better side than I think many of us thought, so it was probably one of our biggest wins of the season so far

Basing it purely on his footwork. I think he's quite a handy sub for a broady or a Chaplin rather than a hirst.

He was the only striker on the bench tho which is why we needed him for hirst tonight.. but I don't see how we will make use of him as a striker the way we play.

a niche perspective

The one thing not one of our 3 strikers has is pace Scarlet runs like his 60 in terms of pace.

Agree, I think we would have held it up so much better with Ladapo. Last 20 we were panicking, unlike us, but Bristol are a decent side. Burgess was superb.

When he played against us last season in the league he looked really sharp but he’s not there at the moment. Real shame Spurs cup-tied him as a few more minutes would clearly help.

We're getting the luck all teams need too, the shot that hit the post and crept right along our goal line eh, that only happens when you're at the top..

Here's a stat, think they said that's 24 mid week games under KM now without a loss!

He looked - understandably - off it. But if McKenna thinks he’s one of the best young strikers there is, that’ll do for me.

In fairness that really wasn't a game for him to come into, but a bit of a needs must situation.

He's not impressed me yet either, if I'm honest, but I'm sure he'll come good over the 34 games we still have.

Yeah, this is true.

All our attacking subs have their strengths but each are inclined to give the ball away (Harness only really when he’s having an off day). The gap between Hirst and Scarlett is as large as any in our squad. Making that switch does weaken us at the moment.

Yes, to be fair we all know he is a very highly talented player, McKenna knows it Tottenham know it.
He will come good, just when we need him.

Starting to see signs I think. Kieran's still adding ingredients to the cauldron, but the magic is starting to work. Some nice battling today.

William's clearance of the line was as good as a goal in my opinion. Good to see the squad battling and chasing after everything

Absolutely, with no ladapo, and Hirst running on fumes someone had to come on.
I’m hoping he has a few Hutchinson moments in next few weeks and we all see his worth

Coming here late in the day so missing out on a lot of training time with the squad, being cup-tied as you say, then being away with England youth squads for the breaks all combine to not really helping him so far.

McKenna talks about the importance of the breaks to get some proper drilling into the players when it isn't relentless match prep to match prep stuff and Scarlett's essentially had none of that.

Also doesn't help that he's come into games where we're having to hold onto a lead which doesn't really suit him or like against Hull where the game is pretty much dead.

Just because I don't care doesn't mean I don't understand.

KM must see something so we need to wait and be patient with him.

That said, he only had to play 20 minutes, and didn't put in anything like the work Hirst did in closing and harrying- which was the least you would expect of him with fresh legs.

Yep, I said exactly that, we missed being able to bring Freddie on once Hirst had run himself into the ground.

Question after Saturday who plays against Fulham?

Hirst would likely need to be rested given our upcoming schedule, Freddie not likely to be fully fit and Dane not available.
