You don't have to drop one. For someone who doesn't affect a game, Chaplin came very close to scoring on more than one occasion today.

Harness no longer on 19:19 - Nov 4 by FrimleyBlue | I haven't. The question was who drops to the bench. |
In hindsight Harness would maybe have been more effective from the off today instead of either Broadhead or Chaplin. He could easily start 3 or 4 games now, giving Chaplin and Broadhead a rest/ on for 30. Rotherham is not going to be any easier than Birmingham and probably quite physical, so again a good choice. Think he also played a Burns/ Hutchinson role at Portsmouth - no problem with Hutchinson starting but he’s so effective coming on against tired legs. Real shame Edwards didn’t want to stay and play the bench role for that same reason.

Harness no longer on 17:10 - Nov 4 by blueM3 | Chaplin drops to the bench no question. Harness has been a level above him every time he’s come on. Unfortunately Chaplin can’t be guaranteed a spot just on last season. It’s all to do with there here and now |
Still fans thinking that they know better than McKenna. Harness deserves all the plaudits today, doesn’t suddenly make him the better player or obvious choice over Chaplin. How many pushing his place in the team were also happy to see him gone in the summer I wonder. Calm down and just enjoy it, he may start on Tuesday he may not, I don’t have a view I’ll just support whoever McKenna puts out there.

I’d have actually argued the reverse is true for your second paragraph. Broadhead has had 2 or 3 games this season of being totally anonymous. On Chaplins quieter days he still gets involved in build up play, switching play and getting stuck in. I wouldn’t drop either for Harness though, even though I really like him.

No you don't have to. I was just responding with who of the two 10s I'd be dropping g if harness was to be given a start. I wasn't the one suggesting harness should start.

Harness no longer on 18:41 - Nov 4 by Nthsuffolkblue | I don't think so. McKenna keeps the squad happy and players know they will get a degree of rotation. It is only about a week ago that posters were claiming Harness and Ladapo aren't good enough for this level and need replacing. |
I think Harness has been at least as good as Chappers recently. And anyone that was saying Harness wasn’t up to it a week ago clearly doesn’t understand football. Chappers is great, I love him, but Harness is, at the very least, giving KM something to think about.

Harness no longer on 17:17 - Nov 4 by LankHenners | Don't think so. Broadhead and Chaplin are better players than him overall, by some margin really. What he's shown though is he can be trusted to come on and contribute when needed. He got the goals but the comeback owed as much to the work of the likes of Scarlett and Hutchinson. |
Yup agreed. Harness, Chappers and B'head being Hirst for Rotherham. [Post edited 5 Nov 2023 0:38]

This is the same Chaplin who has five league goals, almost scored twice yesterday but for Ruddy's big toe in one case isn't it?

Harness no longer on 18:05 - Nov 4 by GlasgowBlue | We have a lot of games coming up so I wouldn’t be adverse to Broadhead and a Chaplin getting a rest. McKenna rested Chaplin a few times last season and he was very effective coming on from the bench. Accrington being a great example those two goals as a sub kickstarted his rich vein of form. |
More likely Broadhead as he has been fully occupied during international breaks, including in the summer. He has barely had a rest wheras Chaplin has.

Harness no longer on 17:21 - Nov 4 by NthQldITFC | I don't think it's so much first XI and subs these days. It's working well with Harness coming off the bench. Chaplin still starts for me, and they have a similar impact on the match. |
Agreed. Although I don’t think Harness is a bad shout for one of the number 10 spots away from home and/or if we think that the opposition will look to outnumber us in midfield. And while he lacks the brilliance of Broadhead or Chaplin to create something out of nothing, he’s similarly dangerous in the box. Also, we can flip the whole thing around and imagine the carnage of Broadhead or Chaplin coming on with fresh legs for the last 30. On a side note, it would be fascinating to know where McKenna sees our improvement around the pitch. Before Davis and to an extent Burgess shored up the left, or until we found the level of Hirst, Broadhead and Chaplin up front, it was always clear where we could improve. Now we’re probably looking at marginal gains and finding the right balance, which is certainly beyond my amateur “analysis”, but I expect McKenna and his expert analysts have some pretty clear ideas of the next step in our evolution.
