Rightly so but it's football.

We'll be the same one day.

It’s a good move for him and if he turned it down he might not get another chance.

He’s done well to recover from the shambles at MK Dons so he would be a fool not to take this opportunity.

My thoughts exactly.

He doubled-down at MK off the back of a successful season, turned down some lucrative offers, and ended up having a nightmare season.

No doubt he'll have learned from the experience, and now feels that it's better to take a new job whilst one's stock is high, rather than risking everything falling apart at Oxford.

I was told once, by someone in the game, that the generally-accepted rule in management is that one good job will secure you your next four appointments. If LM jumps ship now, he can count Oxford as a success, and has enough credit in the bank to see him through the next few seasons.

Are they new to football and how it works? What if they now poach a young manager from the lower leagues who’s been in post for as brief a time as Manning was? Suspect they’ll be more than okay with that.

It's so hard for a club like MK or Oxford to have a 'project'. They are clubs that have done a lot right down the years but realistically as a smaller club you always pay for it by losing your best assets. There's only so many times you can get your recruitment (players and managers) bang on - which is realistically what both clubs need to do to properly compete.

Sliding doors moment for MK really, as if Manning had got them up (so unlucky not to) you'd have backed him to do what Schumacher is doing at Plymouth and kept them up so they could start to really build for the longer term. If Plymouth had slipped outside the top 2, lost in the play offs and lost players/Schumacher they would probably be struggling now in L1.

Incredibly naive.

He turned down jobs whilst at MK - had a squad dismantled and sacked within 12 months.

He would have learnt quickly that there is rarely any loyalty in football from near all parties.

Intersting Hogg has gone with him - he still lives in Ipswich and commutes to Oxford.

Long old poke to Bristol. Although I'm sure the XXX% pay rise will make the move worthwhile. Is he still married to Burley's daughter? She was a nice girl when we were kids.

Unlikely. This has got the Cowley brothers written all over it hasn't it?
Coming in to pip Pompey to the league title?

That will depend on Oxford’s recruitment. If they recruit well perhaps not too much change ?

Not just that. We allowed Edwards to join on loan didn't we? Manning ball suited him.

Or in the case with Marcus Evans and Paul Lambert. One good job will secure your eighth appointment afterwards and will end up getting you a 7 year deal.

From what I read yesterday most of the Oxford fans were very reasonable and understanding if a little frustrated (completely understandable). Only one or two village idiots.

But if McKenna went tomorrow we'd be gutted and a fair few pissed off for him "not finishing the job etc".

Manning and Oxford seemed to be onto a good thing. I think it's a shame but Manning's MK Dons treatment/experience probably did come into it.
