With the elephant in the room (AFCON) drawing ever closer, do we think there’s any possibility Morsy might turn Egypt down. He’s been used as a stoppage time sub in his last few appearances and realistically this could be his one chance to become a premier league player. Or is that just wishful thinking

He didn't make the last squad, I don't think he is going.

Probably won't be picked for some odd reason but there's no way he would turn them down IMO

If he gets picked, good luck to him.

Truly impaired.

I don't think he'd turn down the chance to represent his country in a major tournament. Especially at his age..... But I'm not sure he'll get the call up. Given his omission from their last squad.

Think he's only made one (final) squad in the last couple of years so it looks unlikely he'll be there.

The bigger loss is likely Luongo.

I wouldn't say he's a bigger loss but he's a much more likely loss.

Ergo, he is the bigger loss!

I think we should be scouting the Egypt squad. If they've got a handful of better midfielders than Morsy they must have some tidy players.

If he were to go, and he were to get his 10th booking the game before he departs, does that mean his suspension would overlap, or does it get deferred, as theoretically he's unavailable.

Competition specific unfortunately.

I think the point was more that he could get suspended for two games that he wouldn't be here for, anyway...

So does that make him the elephant? I'm confused.

(He will be a loss no doubt, and looks likely to go).

Wishful thinking. If called up, he goes. No question about that and best of luck to the lad. Representing your country at a major tournament is a fantastic honour.

And just to add, I expect the club has got plans in place for either or both of Morsy and Luongo getting called up. We're not in the Evans+his latest useless manager territory any longer.

It's understandable to be concerned about the impact it could have though, as they're a rather vital duo to us. I thought Taylor put in a very disciplined and and mature performance at the weekend, so we do have some quality cover already (but obviously need more if there are call ups).
