Ladapo nearly scored as many goals in L1 last season as Bishop did. That makes Ladapo almost the same value as Bishop, okay Bishop is slightly younger.

I think maybe totalling £3m INCLUDING Ladapo may not be a bad shout - think people may be surprised by Colby and how he could step up for us…..he’d be a very could guy to compliment what Hirst does and allow us to continue what we try to do with GH with his physicality, running power, and quality
Think people expecting us to sign PL players this window, because we were able to sign Champ players when in L1 may be in for a shock |

We aren’t in a position to worry about players cutting it in the league above at the moment. Only parachute teams can concern themselves with that as the jump is so vast |  |

People are going to be surprised what Ladapo goes for in January. He's out of contract in the summer, 30 years old and on decent money by L1 standards. It's going to be a nominal fee. We'd probably get better value if he was used as a makeweight but nothing like what you suggest! [Post edited 20 Dec 2023 21:47]

Realistically prem ready players will cost a fortune.
What we will get are players who could do a job at this level and develop further
I reckon a mix of young and older champ players will come in January.
If we get promoted.. at that point we will then see a handful I think of ready made prem signings. But only then.

He's not a Premier League player though is he? We don't even know if he's a Championship one.
We'll be looking at young Championship players, probably ones that were let go by their Premier League teams and ended up down here, its not outside the realms of possibility that we'll look for players from the Prem who have never been given the chance there.
What I'm pretty sure we won't be looking at is older L1 players who have never played at this level.

Think that's a fair point about physicality and running power but I'm nowhere near convinced Bishop can step up and add firepower at this level even if the rest is important. Don't want to be all "penalties don't count" but a third of of his goals have come that way – you'd take that in a 24 year old like Hirst, who of course isn't prolific, but in a guy who's 27 and never played this high up I'm just not sure at all. It'd be a lot of money for someone who *might* be able to push us over the line four months down the track but would be of limited use in the longer term. |

I stand corrected, I thought it was 2 with a year option. I think my point stands though, he's not the profile of player that is going to be going for anymore than low hundred thousands. And for an Oxford or Portsmouth to take him, you'd need to factor in an adjustment for him taking a pay cut and us settling part of his deal here. | | | |

Although generally our strategy under McKenna has been to target players we think have the potential to grow and improve with us to one day be Prem players. We were able to sign players who fit that profile in League 1 (Davis and Broadhead in particular) so it'd be a surprise to see us spending £3m on someone who has never played above League 1 and isn't necessarily screaming Prem potential at the age of 27. When we have signed older, more established players under McKenna they've tended to be on frees or low fees, not big money signings. |  |
