I'm thinking it's actually an advantage 10:11 - Dec 24 with 6239 views | Guthrum | having all these tough games within about a month. By 23rd Jan we will have played Leeds and Leicester twice, Southampton away, with the transfer window in progress. Still being in the top four at that point would be great*, in the top two outstanding. From there we can rampage through the remainder of the season like we did last time. * It's mathematically imposible for us to be outside the top four in five games time, even if we lose them all.

May end up totally irrelevant but Leeds v Saints on the last day could be interesting... [Post edited 24 Dec 2023 17:13]

I'm thinking it's actually an advantage on 12:10 - Dec 24 by FrimleyBlue | We did that yesterday. Got ripped apart and lost 4-0 Just because it's done us well against other sides, Doesn't mean you do it against effectively premiership sides. Esp when leeds tore us a new one in the home game when we gifted them the same space opportunities. |
If you support Ipswich you can expect us due to our heritage to go tow to toe with the opposition no matter who they are. Thats how we beat Liverpool, Inter Milan, Man Ure and whoever wants to play us. But we will sometimes lose big. This is our journey and our club. We live with it.

We got 14 points from 18 out of the reverse fixtures to our last six. Leeds got 11 from theirs.

I'm thinking it's actually an advantage on 12:58 - Dec 24 by FrimleyBlue | We didn't play the same way against Southampton. Far from it. That's been my point since yesterday. We've been quite cautious yet maintained our football in past away games. Yesterday we were just stupid. We went all gungho. And my point about the Leeds home game is we got to excited after we scored and left ridiculous gaps. Hence they used it incredibly well.. we didn't learn from this is. It's not the end of the world far from it. But people saying we couldn't have played a different way are forgetting we won away games 0-1 just by being cautious whilst still playing football the way we like to. |
This is the view of someone who doesn't watch us play.

Not really We've scored 15 goals away compared to 32 at home We do not play the same way away from home as we do at home. Everyone including me can see that. Not sure what you're watching if you feel we haven't been more cautious.

I'm thinking it's actually an advantage on 19:35 - Dec 24 with 1970 views | gosblue | Win v Leicester and all the nonsense noise makers on here will be back to salivating about our wonderful season so far. Lose and McKenna has more reasons to bang on the Gamechanger’s door. If Leeds had played like that in the Prem last season they wouldn’t have been relegated. Their biggest problem is their lack of consistency which hasn’t really been a problem for us despite a couple of blips. I was in awe of Leeds on Saturday. I am more in awe of the fact that we are 7 points better than them at half-way. That’s despite us not being allowed to spend the money they are allowed to spend.

And you think we suddenly decided yesterday to play differently away at Leeds and play like we were the home team?

Actually I do. And it appeared to be the case too from the first whistle. We left gaping holes all over the shop. We had lcb battling with our wingback in the opponents half. Davis as playing as high as Burns and we gifted leeds space. Now it's upto you to decide if that's a manager decision or players took it upon themselves but there was nothing about our play yesterday that matched previous away games imo.

Or I could just conclude you're talking boll0cks, which seems the best bet.

If it helps, we set up much as we usually do but were below par and, at the same time, our errors were capitalised upon by a level of player we hardly ever have to face.

I'm thinking it's actually an advantage on 00:21 - Dec 25 with 1705 views | BigCommon | Agree with the OP.. We just got to roll with the punches over this period. And come out the other side with as positive a points haul as we can. It's crap watching your team lose like yesterday. But having re watched all the highlights from games we've won this season, plus the 101 goals vid from last season, on Town TV, and the hospital visit. I hereby declare, that we've got a fkn amazing group of players and staff at this club.. Don't be too down about the Leeds game, write it off.. There's someone's kids in that hospital with pipes hanging out of them, at Christmas, right now....
I'm thinking it's actually an advantage on 08:56 - Dec 25 with 1602 views | franz_tyson | Look, I hope the OP is right..... but I do think the Leicester game is important. Even if we lose. If we bounce back straight away, then that shows real character. Wouldn't rule us out of a narrow victory, but we could easily lose this one. Just like to see us go toe to toe with Leicester....win, lose, draw. Just play our normal game - it's risky, but that's what got us to 52 points at the half-way stage. I just don't want us to take another hammering as I can see spirit and confidence draining away from a great group of players who've never been here before. Far too early to start looking at the matches left ie tough games within a month. 7 points is nothing with 23 games left. When I hear that we've got to get through a difficult run of games and then we'll be fine... that doesn't fit. If we truly are top two pedigree we'd look at these games as an opportunity to put some space between our rivals or catch up with Leicester. We don't.... under the surface, we're not confident about beating teams around us at the top end. We just want to play mid or lower league teams and hope our rivals drop points. I'm not looking any further than Leicester and just hope we really go out and put in a decent performance.

As Sheffield Wednesday found out last season. But the difference is that of you have 35 million Strikers they need one chance to score and you don't get away with giving them that chance. If you look at every game we have played except Leeds twice, you can identify 2 or 3 chances that were missed by our opposition that wouldn't have been missed by 35 million guys. In league one it is around 5 a game. We do the same in our games and you just can not continually do it at this level. Move up the next level and it's about creating the chances along with converting them. But to get that level you need to spend 30 million plus. As a club that hasn't been anywhere near recruiting these players then we are massively over achieving, but we will be found out against strikers like Leeds have. Fortunately there are only 3 or 4 teams with them in the League.
