I'm probably in the minority here, but I'm more worried about Frimmers wellbeing 19:39 - Feb 12 with 8127 viewsNeedhamChris

than I am David Burns right now - yet the majority of the forum seems focussed on the latter

One is the father of a professional footballer who has likely experienced criticism in some his whole career, and will have access to an extended support network.

The other is just a fan on TWTD who yes - has questionable opinions - but clearly cares immensely about Town and is unlikely to have anywhere near the same network and has just lost a major part of their online interaction (assumption). He's ended up as the recipient of a massive pile on which probably wasn't pleasant.

If you're reading this Frimmers, look after yourself and reach out to people if you need anything.

Jesus Christ x 2.

Would’ve never even have crossed my mind to do something like that.

I have a life, surprisingly.

This isn’t a closed off private web space.

One thing I haven’t seen mentioned much is the fan who directly messaged Wes (on instsgram?) to say he was playing rubbish and needed to do better. I think it was a screenshot of that which led Burns Sr. calling out frimmers.

I hope the insta bloke is not on here. Cannot begin to comprehend directly messaging one of your own players to tell them they’re playing s5it. That’s as worse as frimmers’ sustained anti-Burns nonsense

Bit unfair of Frimmers to get called out on the back of that.

Two totally different issues.

Exchanged messages with David today and he bears TWTD no ill will or blame, and none towards Frimmers for that matter. I've emailed FB but not heard back yet.

Good that he bears Frimmers no blame or ill will.

He may well regret naming Frimmers in a social media post.

Frimmers the man will be fine.

Frimmers the TWTD character he played up to in his final year or so has gone.

I remember him posting on here 4-5 usernames ago. He was a laugh and a decent guy. I remember him posting about one act of kindness which i've always remembered. Leaning into the act he developed was very odd. I'm sure if he signed up again and said I was a bell everyone would say yea, you were, welcome back.

It's not personal. He chose to play the WWE style heel character.

...if there was a WWE heel character who's main gimmick was that they once shat themselves in public.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.

Different but related (sustained vs. one off comment) but I hope the insta guy reflects for just a moment and considers what he did was completely unnecessary

This may be untrendy or even too trendy, but I feel no impulse to create a hierarchy of concern here and I'm not sure they would want to vie for the forum's or public sympathy.

Hopefully Mr Burns doesn't feel he's embarrassed his son or drawn too much unwanted attention. Hopefully Frimley, a faceless poster to most, no longer feels threatened by the fallout and retains his relative anonymity. I suspect Mr Burns was intending to call out the unrelenting negativity of a perceived internet troll and to focus minds on the impact such behaviour has. I don't believe for a second that he wanted Frimley's identity unearthed or his safety compromised.

Frimley could hardly have held a lower opinion of Burns' football ability and he hammered this home to the forum for many, many months. He was fully entitled to his unpopular view and to express it, of course he was, but in regurgitating his scathing critique on such an industrial scale he expanded his audience too far. I don't believe for a second that Frimley wanted to reach Wes' family and hopefully he has reflected on how he may healthily avoid repeats of this sorry situation. It isn't about disguising or even necessarily moderating one's opinion, but about recognising when a wholly negative viewpoint has already been expounded on to completion; the line at which social respectability steps back, when opinion morphs into crusade.

A social media break may do both the world of good, even if adjustment periods are at first difficult. Your middle paragraphs contain uncomfortable assumptions in my opinion, but no doubt are written from a well-meaning place. Wishing optimal mental health to everyone 🤗

Why would players' families come here?

We come here for gossip / transfer rumours etc, they know what's going on from the inside.

I know I wouldnt go to a fans forum if my son was playing for a club. Happy to agree to differ.

I never said Frimmers was innocent, I just think he got, and still gets more than his fair share of abuse.

There's no agree to differ about it. Regardless of whether you think they should, players' families evidently do come here.

And we don't just come here for gossip/transfer rumours. Your "etc." is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence!

I quite like Frimmers, despite how disingenuous he could be, but the grief he got was exactly equal to the amount of bilge he spouted.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

I've always just assumed that Frimley was - what is nowadays called - neurodivergent.

Inability to see nuance, hyper-fixation and a general lack of awareness as indicators.

THIS IS DEMOC-RRRRRRR-ACY MANIFEST!
