If it's a choice between the two I would chose Vietnam. Have been to both and spent a month in Vietnam last year. An amazing country and people. Cambodia is good too. Siem Reap to see the amazing Angkor Wat and Phnom Penh where the killing fields are a must visit. A day at Angkor Wat is plenty but get a guide.

With Vietnam Saigon has the edge over Ho Chi MInh for me but it depends on how much time you have for the rest of the country as there are so many great places to visit.

Agree. Siem Reap is great but I did it in a drunken blur over 72 hours and it was plenty.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Haven’t been to Laos it’s on my bucket list though having been to Thailand Myanmar Cambodia and Vietnam ! Heard lots of good things about it so will have to pay it a visit. Off to India in April/May for a month . We were promoted last year while I was in Vietnam so hoping the same thing happens while I’m in India !!

Why have you decided on Phuket as a base?

No offence but I think that is a massive mistake, you would be better off in seedier Pattaya, or anywhere further north to be honest. The larger percentage the Bhuddist population is the friendlier it is.
