How much does a football stand cost? 09:19 - Mar 25 with 9010 views | Heathlander | Don't suppose anyone really knows but what would be a likely cost to either knock down and rebuild the Cobbold Stand or develop it similar to Liverpool by building another tear on it. even if that option is viable in the first place? Sunderland's Stadium apparently cost £16M to build. that sounds ridiculously cheap.

Have you seen the design for Saudi Arabia 2034. Literally building it on a cliff https://www.forbes.com/sites/timnewcomb/2024/01/23/populous-unveils-unique-saudi That'll be another few thousand migrants dead at the feet of FIFA...

How much does a football stand cost? on 10:38 - Mar 25 by SitfcB | I think the new stand will become the new main stand with the changing rooms, tunnel and directors box being in it - plus a load of high end corporate amongst other things that can be used 365 days a year as Ashton has said. |
And link the Sir Alf / Magnus stands with a few thousand extra seats filling the players tunnel corner

How much does a football stand cost? on 11:32 - Mar 25 by RegencyBlue | I think I read that Fulham’s new Riverside stand cost north of £80 million. Don’t know what that entailed exactly but I can’t imagine a complete rebuild of the Cobbold being much cheaper, if at all. It will be one hell of an investment if we do it and can’t see anything happening without PL money. |
Pretty sure Fulham's cost was high because of a few factors we don't have: 1 Building right back to the river - space and engineering issues 2 Central London costs incl / esp wages Ashton has said repeatedly ours will be a single-tier, to maximise space beneath. That promises decent concourses, but also big dining space. There are a number of clubs who have nice squarish rooms that seat 300 - 500 for dinner (examples, Plymouth, Crewe, Bristol City). If we did this, we'd pick up a lot of local big-dinner trade non-matchdays. There would still be room for private dining facilities, either with or without pitch view (I can't think of any modern single tier stands with exec boxes, but can imagine it could be done with outside seating). I'd love there to be a decent restaurant open 7 days a week, like maybe the MPW at Stadium MK. It'll be interesting to see what ITFC might do with the joins to N and S stands. I imagine there may be an attempt to align then at roof level, but there is potentially a massive gap between E and S stands (perfect space for a brewery, like at Spurs...). It would be ideal to shift the pitch maybe 2m east, as currently most seats in West Upper can't see the touchline. Also, widen the pitch a wee bit. I am not convinced we would move boardroom / directors box across. Logistically it makes little sense. There are very few west-facing directors boxes (thinks, Shrewsbury & Fleetwood), as you get blinded by the sun or soaked by the rain.
How much does a football stand cost? on 14:20 - Mar 25 with 1929 views | BloomBlue | As a rough estimate I would say, £84,743,672.83. It will be interesting if we go with a knockdown/rebuild or build around the existing stand. Ultimately the knockdown/rebuild would be cheaper in terms of structural cost but would leave us short on seats during the build. I've always felt the best solution given the old training pitch behind the magnus and car park behind Cobbold is they twist the ground round. You would assume that would allow them to build brand new bigger stands quicker. Although I appreciate building 2 new stands would be an added expense.

Building a stadium into a cliff is actually easier than reading that article amongst all the adverts
How much does a football stand cost? on 16:24 - Mar 25 with 1844 views | xrayspecs | The Cobbold will need to be levelled and a new stand built from scratch. It will cost £100-£150m based on other recent developments of similar size. The investment announced on Friday will cover our operating losses (£20m per season) and some investment activities (training ground, academy etc) for the next four or so seasons. We would need a separate fund raise for the new stand. Cannot see that being until the end of this decade. [Post edited 25 Mar 2024 16:27]

For all the desire I have I don't think the club would appoint a good or well known sports stadium architect like Populous, and instead may go a far more commercial route which may save a few bob but would look like it and maybe not age so well. Someone above mentioned Crystal Palace's new stand is circa £150m - I have seen "above £100m" mentioned (though with materials costs and Brexit related worker issues that is perhaps now likely closer to £150m) I think the Palace stand is larger, but perhaps a similar model approach - though their site is a lot more complicated for access, works and general overhead costs.

Might need to dust off The Men Who Made The Town, but I think I'm right in saying originally the pitch was east/west - it was a cricket pitch in the summer. Suspect that it was shifted around sharpish because as there would have been no Constantine Road bus/tram garage at that time, and obviously no stand at the western end, there would have been quite big problems dealing with the sun as nothing would be blocking it.

When the Cobbold and the Pioneer (West) stands were built they each cost is the better part of a team and only now are they actually paying for themselves.
