Without wishing to sound like some kind of patronising Gen X tosspot(but probably failing) here, how on earth would some of you have coped with pre-internet days when you could go literally WEEKS without a shred of ITFC news in the EADT, let along the nationals? [Post edited 29 May 2024 13:41]

I don't know about you but I would sit with binoculars waiting for the Green'un or Star to be delivered. Then we got a TV with Teletext and would wait for the news to update. Millennial Tosspot and proud.

The Evening Star was always delivered to my grandparents, but the Green Un was always collected from the Cornhill. In later years, I’d grab one on a Sunday on my way home from the petrol station near the Orwell Bridge when filling up. I liked the Green Un. It was mostly irrelevant rubbish, but somehow it was comforting.

Yup, waiting for Teletext to refresh is deffo something I have done! I also ran up a massive mobile phone bill phoning Teamtalk ITFC hotline to hear the absolute tosh that had been made up bearing no resemblance to the truth in my teenage years!!!

Once, whilst away in Norfolk I drove an hour to buy an EADT in the hope of seeing some ITFC news. To no avail.

At the risk of sounding crass, it was perfect reading for trips to the loo.

Ha, indeed. Sadly I am old enough to remember those days but what you didn't know or have then means you didn't miss it. Given the advances in technology and everything nowadays, it's hard to believe that there were times when we were away abroad and didn't find out results, news, etc. until we got home. Technology and the internet has done wonders, but it does have its downfalls, i.e. the hysteria of the last week or so wouldn't have happened in the good old days. TWTD.

As a kid, post 1986 following relegation there was a lack of anything much to do with Ipswich in Match Weekly or Shoot. The Green Un was literally my only way of keeping up with club.

Thing is back in those old days we didn't expect anything - we just waited for Tony Garnett to give us a little nugget every now and again (and believed every bit of what he said). Sigh - oh for those good old days when there were no trolls and flouncers!

You should have tried living on the Orkney Islands from 1991-1994, when there was zero coverage of English football on any Scottish media - I remember having to phone up Middlesborough's office for the result after an away league game to them when we were close to promotion!

I hope so, I'm out with the missus for our anniversary meal tonight. I don't think it'll go down well if I'm still refreshing TWTD every few minutes!!! On another note, Phil/Gav must be loving this! the number of hits the site has been getting over the last week must be off the charts and the Hobnob cupboard must now be overflowing. Poor old Marks legs must be falling off running on that hamster wheel fast enough to keep the server going.

I think that's the case. Even so, I still have to check my phone every so often. My wife is starting to think I've got a bit-on-the-side! Refresh... Sigh

I remember lots of years ago we were waiting to see whether our star player would sign his new contract. Jason Dozzell. He didn’t, and left for Spurs (in those days you still got a large transfer fee for out-of-contact players). I mentioned this so many times to my then girlfriend that she phoned up the club to find out what was going on. Unsurprisingly whoever answered the phone didn’t know.

It's probably closer to an hour once you've contended with the traffic and faffed about getting parked mate. [Post edited 29 May 2024 13:10]

"Well of course we had it tough...." In the late 60's/early 70s the only way to get the result of a mid-week game was to stay up until 10pm when the results were read out after the news bulletin on Radio 2. If you missed that you had to wait until the paper came the following morning

I remember being on holiday as a child somewhere in the Med and not knowing the results of the first three games of the season till I got back home. I also remember finding out the lineups for matches from one of the Sunday papers when I was at uni (early 90s) [Post edited 29 May 2024 13:24]

Back in the 90's we also had Teamtalk. A terribly expensive premium rate phone number that had all the latest 'news'. https://www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/12/29/premium-rate-phone-lines-lured-f
