Transfers this summer, how many? State of Squad. 12:34 - Jun 3 with 11497 views | itfcjoe | My view on squad currently with retained list well overdue - i.e. which over 21 players will be here next season and offered a deal GK (3) Hladky, Walton, Slicker FBs (3) Davis, Tuanzebe, Clarke CBs (5) Burgess, Woolfenden, Edmundson, Ndaba, Baggott CMs (4+1) Morsy, Taylor, Luongo, El Mizouni, (Humphreys U21) FWs (4/5) Burns, Chaplin, Broadhead, Harness, (Jackson - contract status not announced) STs (4) Hirst, Al-Hamadi, Ladapo, Ahadme Total of 23 senior players plus Kayden Jackson (unsure) and Cameron Humphreys (U21) Think it's fairly safe to say the following players will be heading out on loan again, or sold for a fee/mutually terminated (i.e. weren't close to being good enough for us last season) Elkan Baggott, Corrie Ndaba, Idris El Mizouni, Freddie Ladapo and Gassan Ahadme If we then exclude Jackson from this, it leaves us with 18 senior players, so for me transfer business this summer looks like this: Additions - 7 new signings to fill the gaps to take us to 25 men Senior players departing (3) - Walton, Edmundson and Harness at most risk of going as not regular starters - If any of these leave it will see them replaced on a 'one in-one out' nightclub door policy Further loans (2) - Slicker and Al-Hamadi may be ones to go out on loan - As above if this happens it will be the nightclub door policy Other points of interest - Cam Humphreys may be retained as 26th man as still an U21 - Kayden Jackson may get a new deal and then one less addition - Does Jack Taylor fall into one of the above 2 categories when looking at game time last year? Overall view - 7 new signings, with potential for up to 5 more - The '5 more' may be split across the summer and January transfer windows

Transfers this summer, how many? State of Squad. on 17:42 - Jun 3 by Herbivore | Surely he'd just stay at Bournemouth though if that's the ask of him? And is he worth £30-40k a week on loan to play the odd 10 minutes here and there? I'd rather keep and develop Al-Hamadi personally. |
Think he's unlikely to get any look in at Bournemouth tbh, so may be a choice between us and the Champ. Definitely won't be a loan for us but may be of interest as a forward we know that doesn't break the bank. FWIW it's not one I'd personally do.

I'm just generally struggling to see the logic of loaning out Al-Hamadi to then have to bring someone else in to be third choice striker, whether that's someone like Moore or someone else. It doesn't make much sense to me. [Post edited 3 Jun 2024 17:58]

Transfers this summer, how many? State of Squad. on 14:26 - Jun 3 by itfcjoe | Any names so we can see the profile? My guess is a new number 1 to compete with Vas, and then try and get Slicker a loan spell and have an old head number 3 |
Genuinely don’t know of any names. Just was told we are looking at goalkeepers. Whether that’s bench option or squad, I don’t know. Or even first choice perhaps if Hladky left seeing as he’s not yet signed.

If you don’t think AAH is good enough right now it’s pretty much the only option.

I think he's good enough to be third choice.

It depends whether we see more value in Al-Hamadi getting a handful of PL bench appearances or 40+ Champ games week in week out? He's made a huge step up in the last 12-18 months. A season in the Champ, scoring 15-20 goals would see him in much better shape to stake a legit claim for a PL berth IMO. That's no slight on him, as I think he's got a big future here.

But the kind of club in the Champ that's going to start him every week so he can bag 20 goals won't have the quality that we have and won't have McKenna and his team coaching him, so game time aside he's not going to be developing as much. And then you come back to having to find short term cover as a third striker when we've already got plenty of other business to prioritise.

Transfers this summer, how many? State of Squad. on 16:30 - Jun 3 by tractorboy1978 | Couldn't disagree more about Chaplin. Think he's one that will really step up and contribute even if that is as a squad player and less as a starter. And he's a huge character in the dressing room too. He'd pretty much be bottom of the list of players I'd be looking to move on. |
That’s cool. We are allowed to have different views. Didnt rate his final 1/3 of the season at all last year, so I hope you are correct, and he does push on.

Because you need real quality in the PL, and having AAH as a third choice, sitting on the bench weekly, and not improving or learning, isn’t going to help him or us. He’s not PL ready, at all. I’d honestly say something has gone wrong if he plays a minute for us next season personally. (Please bookmark this for when he gets his 20th of the season on NYD away to Man City!)

You do need serious quality, which is why I'd rather we spend our funds on players who will improve us rather than on bringing in a third choice striker whilst sending Al-Hamadi out on loan. We're going to have a fair bit of business to do, why create another squad space to fill? Is Al-Hamadi ready to play every week in the Prem? Very likely he's not, but nor will anyone else who joins us to be third choice be. There's an argument whether he is better served training with us and getting a few minutes here and there in the leagues and playing more in the cups or going out on loan to a top League 1 or bottom half Champ side. I'm not convinced there's much in it on that score, but taking everything into account I don't see the value in shipping him off and then having to replace him.

Transfers this summer, how many? State of Squad. on 17:14 - Jun 3 by portmanking | Come on. Kieran hasn't signed a new lucrative 4 year deal to cling on to deadwood. Collectively, we need to think bigger now. |
Oh I agree, but stand by him over Harness. Lots of movement, both in and out, very necessary.
Transfers this summer, how many? State of Squad. on 19:29 - Jun 3 with 823 views | nodge_blue | What do you think the plan was / is with Taylor? Hes not really a tackling, holding midfielder. Do you think Kieran was looking to tweak him into that side a bit more? Hes a good attacking midfielder, more like Tommy Miller from years back. Id keep him still. Maybe he could play the 10 role?
