Still In contract negotiations isn’t he? When do we hear anything? Is it likely he stays with us?

I wonder if he is waiting to find out if he is seen as the No1.

I doubt he'll want to sign to sit on the bench.

In the Prem, why not?

He was doing it in league one behind Walton.

RIP Sir Bobby

Hes just had a season as No1, and been a key part of our promotion.

I suspect he'll want to continue playing. Most keepers don't want to play second fiddle.

Could be wrong, could be right. Just my view.

Suspect length of contract might also be a stumbling block. He's 34 now, his stock has never been higher and he's been a lower division player for almost all his career so probably needs to maximise his earnings while he can.

Waiting to see if he’s number 1 before signing? He’ll have a long wait given that’ll be decided toward the end of pre-season 🙄

In 2020 he run down and rejected a new contract from St Mirren to go to Salford City on a free so this is not his first contract based rodeo.

Maybe he has family or he was settled in Glasgow which might sway a move back there if Celtic are still after him.

As a side note would Salford City pay a greater salary than a premiership Scottish side?

That's the point I made above. He moved to St Mirren at 28, he was 2nd choice at Slovan Liberec and only played 30 games in 3 years there. His wages would have been lowi and he rejected a new offer to move to Salford after 18 months where he was on a salary of £50k a year (not a week)

At Ipswich it's reported at £6k a week and he's found himself out of contract but with his profile never having been higher. He's not had 10-15 years of high salaries so will surely go to wherever he can maximise his earnings for what is potentially his last contract.

I cant seen us offering too long a contract, but if someone like Celtic came in and offered him 10k-15k a week for 3 years you wouldn't blame him for taking that.

I know what you mean about not wanting to play second fiddle, but in the top three divisions clubs have at least two senior keepers. So more than half of them do either sit on the bench or in the stand.

Why the contract negotiations are taking so long I haven’t the faintest idea, although we can all come up with speculation. Hopefully we will find out soon

Some are happy to be No2, some aren't.

It was just my view of one potential factor.

He doesn't know who he will be up against yet.

We don't have to agree.

Not sure why this still isn't done, he seemed happy to stay as of a couple of months ago when I asked him about the situation.

This is likely his only chance to play in the PL if he stays, but, would playing in the CL trump that with Celtic I guess would be the conversation for a 33 year old keeper to be having with his people.

I am not totally convinced he is a PL keeper, he would possibly be a better keeper in the PL than the championship given the playing out from the back style as he might in some games get more time on the ball which will lead to less pressure on the defenders.

A summer of kicking the ball at him to improve his shot stopping would be welcomed should he stay.

Salford have been one of the highest spenders in L2 ever since they came into the League. I'd think they'd pay about 50% more than Saint Mirren on average.

New level of secrecy over transfer deals: Not announced even after they're signed, code-names for players on the matchday team sheet and have to wear a mask on the pitch. Non-disclosure agreement lasting ten years after they leave the club.

Should keep things nice and secure.

St Mirren's top earning player season just gone was on £4.6k per week (Theirry Small now playing for league 1 Charlton Athletic)

Salford Citys top earning player season just gone was on £4.4k (Declan John contracted to league 1 Bolton Wanderers)

Games gone.

The fact we have got to this point with no deal means a deal is unlikely to happen IMO. Clearly a difference of opinion and when you take the emotion out of it, Town's player trading strategy won't be favouring paying a 33YO (34 in Nov) decent wages with Walton already on the books and the potential of a new number one keeper coming in.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if we ended the window with Hladky and Walton both starting elsewhere and two new keepers on our books. Rushworth sounds like he's definitely of interest and then maybe one of Sam Johnstone/ Dean Henderson/ Nick Pope on favourable loan terms if any of those are sitting on the bench come the middle of August.

Think the alternate view to that might be that it's broadly agreed (as per Phil's post) but that getting the McKenna deal done sucked up all the attention from Ashton/Werhun and both parties were happy to tie up the bits and pieces when Hladky gets back from his holiday.

With that article dating back to 9th April, I suspect it was probably broadly agreed when we were a Championship outfit as he would be getting similar wages and he would almost certainly have the starting spot.

All that changed for both parties when we got promoted. I suspect he will be asking for more money with the additional caveat that the club are able to give fewer assurances around playing time.

Yes quite possibly. I think your scenario and mine are both realistic. The lack of progress might be down to differences or might it be down to lack of capacity to get the detail done and key people being away.
