Postal Vote 08:00 - Jun 15 with 2981 views | Crawfordsboot | I will be on holiday in Scotland during the election and being keen to vote this shower out I registered for a postal vote. I received a letter today informing me that my voting papers will be sent out by 26 June to arrive by 28 June. The election is just six days later on 4th July! Almost inevitably the short lead time means I will be away when the papers are sent out and up until after the election. The very short lead time makes no sense it defeats the objective of enabling people to vote. With the election falling in the summer I imagine that a great many people will be similarly affected. This system is not fit for purpose. Has anyone else registered for a postal vote and been advised of similar lead times?
Postal Vote on 08:10 - Jun 15 with 2932 views | bluelagos | Not registered for a postal vote (have before) because am undecided who to vote for. (if my constituency is in play or not) What I can't get is how we haven't come up with a vote by phone option. Can't be beyond the wit of man can it? We want people to engage in democracy then surely we should make it easier to vote?

Thanks. Mine - Staffordshire Moorlands, are being sent out on the 26th - a week later than yours. It seems that they have some discretion as to the timetable.

Walking to a voting station is difficult? Must admit I find other forms of walking I.e. to the pub, to PR to watch game, the same level of difficulty as walking to a voting station.

Would be very expensive to implement I would think. Online voting should be a thing though in this day and age.

That’s more open to the possibility of fraud though I’d have thought?

Not really. If you use govt gateway, verified with MFA and photo ID and all that shizzle. Before they introduced photo ID at polling stations anyone could have rocked up with your polling card.

There are many of us whose work takes us away from home. Walking to polling station is difficult if the polling station is in Ipswich and I'm in Carlisle!

Yep, an awful lot of people have to go places for work, often at very short notice and/or work unsociable hours. I got caught out in the 97 election getting sent to Cardiff for a 9am meeting one year and just managed to make the meeting having been at the polling station bang on 7am.

You can go online & register to vote so not sure why you can’t vote online safely.

It's a hurdle, but given Aussie's use it without issue am not sure it's one we couldn't sort if the political will was there.

Postal Vote on 15:35 - Jun 15 with 2342 views | WeWereZombies | In the same boat except that I live in Scotland but will be on a trip to Ireland on polling day. I got a letter from Highland Council at lunchtime informing me that my postal vote papers will be sent out on Friday 21st so i have a decent chance of receiving them before I set off on Thursday 27th. Only kink in any fallback position is that should I want to change to a proxy vote I need to inform them by 17:00 on 19th June.

Well I was speaking as someone who had to create a fake cover email address (with Microsoft's help) because hundreds of attempts had been made over a few weeks to hack my account; whose every email was tracked; and who was once duped into filling personal details in on a cloned NHS site that had invited me to take up my first Covid jab at a time when we were told to expect that invitation by Govt. ads on TV & radio ...

Postal Vote on 22:30 - Jun 21 with 1792 views | WeWereZombies | Having got the letter informing me of the ballot papers being posted on the 21st last Friday I was slightly surprised to find all I need for my postal vote late this lunchtime. That's an impressive postie run from Inverness this morning the hundred and ten miles to my place (OK, they might have got ahead of schedule and posted the envelope yesterday.)
