New Palace Stand 08:09 - Jun 15 with 4890 views | Snedders | https://www.cpfc.co.uk/news/stadium/update-on-the-main-stand-redevelopment/ Following the thread about building over the Cobbold, Palace just released an update on plans for their main stand… “The construction of the new stand will look to be built around the existing structure, with the aim of keeping the stadium fully operational throughout the build. The video below demonstrates how this process is envisaged to take place.”

It will contrast nicely with the Arthur Waite Stand, where, I am pleased to report, the loos still get flooded every game.

New Palace Stand on 09:51 - Jun 15 with 4286 views | Churchman | The build sequence video is interesting. That’s how to do it if you have the space, the will, permissions and the money. Their found is going to look quite lopsided, is does Fulham’s, but I presume at the very least the old stand opposite will be replaced at some point. 34,000 should be enough for Crystal Palace for now and they’ll have the facilities for 12 months a year use.
New Palace Stand on 10:22 - Jun 15 with 4118 views | OsmansCleanSheet | ‘The opposition changing rooms will therefore be placed underneath the Holmesdale Road stand. However, the basement of that stand is not currently watertight………………’ Let’s hope it’s a dry day when we play there!
New Palace Stand on 10:50 - Jun 15 with 3951 views | wrightsrightglove | I’d be amazed if this isn’t the route that we go down, there’s just no way we can shut the whole stand for a season in the current climate. And it’s fully achievable, effectively we have to offer safe access and egress for a few hours every other weekend for 9 months, which as far as large scale construction projects go isn’t a major issue to overcome. My only concern would be the length of time needed to remove and replace the existing stand once it gets to that point with the level of asbestos and unknowns within the existing stand. They’d have to start that process on day one of the off season as there’s a lot of work to do in a few months. One bonus though is that none of our existing changing rooms, media set up etc. are in that stand so that helps to make the process easier. | | | | Login to get fewer ads
New Palace Stand on 11:13 - Jun 15 with 3840 views | Guthrum | Very impressive. But would definitely need Portman Road to be realigned (as was hinted at in the aquatic centre plans), some land taken in what is now the car park and statues moved. Has the advantage of preserving the place as a four-stand ground rather than a concrete bowl stadium.

Ashton has spoken before about PR being a 4-stand ground and not becoming a bowl. He's also spoken about the new stand being the 'face' of Portman Road and facing the town centre so I could envisage something like this happening. I expect things will gather pace over the next 12 months, way ahead of original timing.

New Palace Stand on 12:11 - Jun 15 with 3643 views | Vic | That is really nice and I suspect that with the owners and whatever we have we’ll be looking at something at least as good as that. It would be transformational to the whole area, and there is certainly space if the council and club work together.

… being arched, and level paved https://www.bbc.com/news/av/uk-england-suffolk-68548561 As much for access and pedestrians than cars. Suggest it will become more integrated to the ground and new leisure facilities Will be big a huge step forward for the football ground, the Portman road area and the town. Football fans do get excited about facility upgrades… me especially! [Post edited 15 Jun 2024 12:49]

Oi, the cabin world can be a glamorous place I’ll have you know! Just put one in up the Training Ground funnily enough.

New Palace Stand on 13:18 - Jun 15 with 3360 views | Denny32 | I think this will start gathering pace once the owners see the Club adapting and establish themselves in the league. If we do a Sheffield united on it .don't think it will happen ..more importantly if that happens. Money will be focused on the training ground facilities and better players.....hope we do get off to a good start. Be great to see a new stand and bring capacity up to 38 thousand

I think closing the bottom end of Portman Road to traffic was partially in preparation for it to be built over once the Cobbold Stand was developed.

New Palace Stand on 15:43 - Jun 15 with 2874 views | BtreeBlueBlood | Just watching the euros, the cologne stadium looks great. Starting higher, so security/ stewards can walk around without getting in anyone’s way then 5 rows of fans Then wheelchair and carers the whole length and no distractions . Then about 20 rows to finish level 1-! Then there is a 2nd level! Every seat has a great view! Even disabled seated can see with people standing in the rows in front of them.

The German stadiums look spectacular, with the exception of the Berlin one with its running track. It looks like they’ve really invested in them in recent decades.
New Palace Stand on 17:10 - Jun 16 with 2107 views | Nthsuffolkblue | It's what Liverpool did with their new stand too. The two big issues with developing new stands we have had in the past have been reduced capacity while they are built and the cost of repaying loans. If we can get it done without significantly reducing capacity and without borrowing the money, that makes it a far lower risk (indeed, I would suggest risk-free). Let's hope that this time we can get it done and remain at the top level to keep the stadium filled after completion.
