They are both better left wingers for England in this system than Foden is. Saka plays on the other side so not sure that's relevant.
Phil foden is a superb footballer, but he was very poor tonight and has been consistently poor for England. Just doesn't work in this system, Gordon a better option imo. [Post edited 16 Jun 2024 23:33]

Quite a few of the big boys have decided to blood their younger talent this time round.
On the limited evidence of the opening games, Germany and Spain have coaches who seem to know how to utilise this talent rather than just pick it.
Southgate has chucked ours in and just hopes they’ll do what Pep, Ancellotti, Arteta etc have taught them.
It’s like an amateur golfer sp*nking five grand on a load of top quality new technology hitting sticks and wondering why he spends most of his time now poking through the undergrowth. This stick works when Scheffler and co use it, so I’ll have thrash with it.

Rashford has had a really poor season, scoring 8 times in 43 games. It wouldn't surprise me if off the field activities have gotten slightly the better of him & in modern pro football, if you're only putting in 90% rather than 100% in training & on the pitch, it shows.
Southgate was 100% right to leave him out. He's been constantly criticised for picking players out of loyalty or reputation rather than form. |  |
