Middle Aged Man having a rant down the pub?

Micah Richards made the mistake of asking him what he thought, and he totally ditched the anchor role and just ranted at the rest of the panel, who looked at the table awkwardly.

I just rewound and timed it. 1 minute 34 seconds of pure angry rantage!

I like it personally. He's normally utterly banal.

On England he seems to get a bit waspy, which I like and resonates with me.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

It was good to hear his opinion as a former top class striker.

Yep, as we don’t often get to hear what he thinks (Twitter aside lol).

Bang on with his comments about Kane though. We don’t often get to hear what he thinks on MOTD, as his part is all tightly scripted. He’s on fire here.

Poll: Do you think Pert is key to all of this?

I can't stand Gary Lineker as a social commentator (I really don't care what half-baked opinions he is spouting) and the way he thinks the BBC impartiality rules don't apply to him, but I really like him as a sport broadcaster, and I've been listening to his podcast recently.
We should be able to enjoy things being neutral. It really is dangerous for the stability of our country if we can't just support our own nation together in football.

When it needs saying, it should be said. Gareth Southgate could learn a thing or two from Lineker and Shearer.

I like Linekar as a sports commentator, but I have the same problem with him and the likes of Shearer, Neville
etc when it comes to England, they failed as players. They never won anything for England, complete failures. If they're going to criticise at least admit you as an individual also let England down.
Rio to his credit when making the point this team is playing as individual not as a team did at least say it was the same when he played for England

When he was talking about Kane?

Was hardly angry or even a rant. I enjoyed him having an opinion to be honest, and a fairly refreshing one.

According to your logic Rio is a complete failure as well as he didn't win anything for England. So you shouldn't listen to a failure....?

That’s harsh. Lineker played in what was a great team in 1990, lost on penalties having outplayed the Germans. He also played for Barcelona. Shearer was one of the best strikers I’ve ever seen & played in the Euro 96 side which played some great games. Had the country rocking! Again went out on penalties. There aren’t many left who can say they won something with England.

If getting to World and Euro semi-finals is failure in your book you must hate useless McKenna’s continual inability to win the league….

I’d have loved to have failed for England by being one of our top 5 goal scorers of all time.

Not sure what your point is. Are you saying people should critique our performances and support them irrespective? I’m not sure that would be a healthy position for media. Surely the media (especially people like Lineker, Ferdinand and Shearer, some of our best ever players) should be able to ask questions that may be awkward for Southgate and the team?

Europa doesn't like it when people point out that the Tories are bigoted, incompetent, corrupt criminals.

I'm one of the people who was blamed for getting Paul Cook sacked. PM for the full post.
