And now we actually in the PL 09:47 - Jun 23 with 7865 viewsmuccletonjoe

We see the problems every promoted team has in attracting the higher calibre of players.
It is not going to be an easy summer for Ashton or McKenna. I can see our sights slowly lowering to players who will want to come rather than players we need.

What evidence is there that the manager is about to jump ship?

Weird take in the second paragraph is highly offensive about a very decent man who is our manager - you should be ashamed of yourself.

Third paragraph - it might be the best you can hope for but you are an eternal pessimist who expected us to be relegated last season rather than promoted!

The majority of Town fans are looking forward to promotion, I am certainly. If you aren't then probably best look in the mirror.

Well done for trying to analyse that. I gave up half way through the first paragraph!

Exactly what happened last season you mean?only one division higher up with the added handicap of being amongst the relegation favourites and a manager who is likely to jump ship?

Should work in Town’s favour again if the likes of the Greek striker and Croatian goalie go somewhere sunny instead…. But McKenna’ grubby antics and subsequent lottery win will make Town an obvious target for dodgy agents and money-grabbing players worldwide.

A bit early to panic as the shops aren’t really open yet let alone sifting through the barrel scrapings… but one hopes a couple of good championship players might fancy a year of purgatory in the Prem followed by pocketing the parachute payments…as a worst case scenario - that seems about the best to be hoped for.

Time was when managers and supporters looked forward to promotion - and thought their players could step up a level. Those days are long gone in the strange world of TWTDland

McKenna's grubby antics?

Distortion becomes somehow pure in its wildness.

Unlike other respondents I do not see this as a bad question, however I think you have to ask that standard response 'Do we want a player who does not see the club as the best place to be ?'

By that I would further suggest that we will be after players who see Ipswich as the best step in their career progression and development as a player, and not as the flashy big name on their CV. And by going after those players we avoid the show ponies, we avoid players who are not going to give their all for the team. And I guess that McKenna will know that problem very well from his time at Manchester United.

So whilst we are not in the market for the most expensive players who want to always to be in a team challenging for a Champions League place I do not think we are going to have a problem attracting players who are in the upswing and prime stages of their careers, they will want to work with McKenna and his team but the contract terms will be up to Ashton to agree and he will be mindful of FFP (the UEFA rules, not frozen fresh plasma) and its implications should we survive our first season or, I know we do not want to think about it, get relegated.

It’s going to be a very tough window as there are fewer players who are worth signing and more competition to get them….its not just PL clubs it’s also top division continental clubs we are having to beat to signings now.

We’ll get there, but there will be lots of plates spinning and it’s going to see Ashton getting less and less sleep as it goes on!

I’m attempting to judge which is the most pathetic post in this thread - the OP or yours . . 🤔

To be able to put every possible negative connotation on points made in a thread, for that, you deserve congratulations, so on that criteria, you win.

As a supposed ITFC fan, you’re a disgrace. As a wind up merchant, you win the gold medal.

Mostly, I do enjoy this forum, but when I see OP’s like that, from someone who obviously doesn’t understand the first thing about how transfers materialise, progress and finalise, especially at the top level, I question the mental aptitude of some of our “fans” .

To posters like you, who consistently attempt to wind everybody up with ridiculous “assumptions”and a negative take on everything, I don’t just question the mental aptitude but the motive.

While I think of it, have you ever actually started a thread? I could check I guess, but can’t be arsed to waste time on you . .

I would have thought , putting a post up about getting players "who want to come here " as opposed to those who are looking for big contracts was a reasonable argument.

It was the way you said it. Exactly what problems have you actually seen?

And you didn't mention players "who are looking for big contracts" in your OP. I don't think MA, KM & Gamechanger would even be looking at those sorts anyway.

Clearly I didn’t say that he is about to jump ship - just that touting himself for every available job before the cheers have died down is not an encouraging look for would-be signings (nor out of contract goalies).

If I was a conservative MP or strategist I’d probably have a flutter on him being gone by Xmas.

Yeah and you can tell that from the sheer number of links that seem genuine. There's probably 4/5 in each position that we've put the feelers out for and spoken to clubs/agents about. You've got to strike the balance between biding your time for your top targets and moving on before options 2,3 and 4 get snapped up.

Spot on in both of your paras.

To make assumptions, quote examples.

Plus, does the OP seriously think that we’ll make do with only players who want to come here as opposed to players that can improve and add something to our squad, even if it costs a bit more to get those wanted players?

"a manager who is likely to jump ship" were your actual words! Even in this reply you state you would have a fiver on him being gone by Christmas and you now add that you believe he has touted himself for every available job.

You seem to be unaware of the meaning of your own words!

That Lucas Sposito article says it is from Sporting Lisbon[/]'s perspective that the player preferred money to the project, not Ipswich's.

Plus it's the club which has turned down our bids (assuming reports are accurate), not the player.

Come on. I just used that to emphasise a point.
WHATEVER players we are after , the higher they are regarded, the more problems we will face.
