You would think people would have learnt to not question Ashton and McKenna in their dealings by now!

No one is questioning it. If it happens. Fine
At the moment it's a reported rumour. Like many others.

I don't see us going for a championship cb when we already have wolfy. Burgess and edmundson and Axel. Plus the likes of Baggott to come through. If any cb Is signed I'd imagine it'll be one with premiership experience to add known quality and experience to the backline not potential.

But he’s much better than a championship centre back.

Greaves is a super player who could quite easily be sold for double what you pay for him in a couple of years. Exactly the sort of player we should be after.

Greaves is better than all we have currently, so of course we would go for him.

Isn't the point we are going for him, doesn't mean we get him, Hull might want to much, other sides might drive the price too high. But if we're in active negotiations then we are trying for him

Can someone let me know what I'm missing. Greaves didn't stand out to me when we played them, which I guess is fair as I was somewhat distracted in the 3-3 game, and we put 6 past them across the two games. What qualities does he bring? How much better, if at all, do people think he is that what we already have?

On that basis Leeds fans could say that Leif is absolutely rubbish.

We could suggest that Mavdidi isn’t all that great and not is Philogene.

Greaves was in the team of the season for the Championship. He’s clearly a very, very good player.

Think it’s quite clear we are in for Greaves. The Athletic journo’s don’t usually report on dud links so I’m confident that the news is valid.

... What are you on about? I haven't said anything negative about him. I said he didn't stand out to me, and gave the reasons. I've asked people in the know to explain more.

"What qualities does he bring? How much better, if at all, do people think he is that what we already have?"

I trust he "clearly a very, very good player" because KM wants to sign him. I wish to know why and compared to what we have.

Big difference or small difference. Like woolfy he can pass and Def. Or like burgess gets everything in the air and can pick a long pass. Is he a threat in the opposition box. And so on.

You make a good point and no one has responded other than he made player of the season therefore he's better than ours.

I know nothing of him. So I too would like to know other than age what makes him automatically better right now than Burgess. Wolfy. Edmundson or Tuenzebe other than he was selected in team of the season. Which of course is great of course but doesn't explain his strengths over our current promotion winning defenders.

I would suggest a Hull double pack and sign both Greaves and Liverpool loanee Tyler Morton (could be a new Loan agreement)... Good fit to strengthen midfield. Any views?

He is like a mix of both of them. He’s got the aerial ability of Burgess and the ability to bring the ball out from the back like Woolfie (super press resistant) and he is left footed which is always welcome and he is young. He’s just a brilliant modern centre back who can still do the dirty defensive side of the game very well I think he ranked really highly in tackles won. Jarrad Branthwaite is a great comp for him.

There is a reason Everton and West Ham have been interested in him. He’s a top top player who will imo be playing at the top of English football soon enough. It would be a superb signing.

The Athletic bods don’t mess about. If they’ve reported it I would take it as a given. They don’t post stories unless there’s more than something in it.

We are clearly in for him, how far that goes who knows.

Can we just go for it and get greaves then for the now and future potential and rodon for that experience and international football. To go with Johnson. That's backline sorted.

I'd prefer to sign someone from Southampton, just so we can say we've signed a Saint and Greavsie.

Watching this thread and all the opinions voiced, in fairness I don't know this player but this resonated to me:

"I'm not convinced he is that much better than Burgess, but he does have more pace."

Simplistic maybe, but stepping up to the Prem we need to inject pace etc into our team. Yes I hear you skills, passing, ball retention but pace/speed and physicality is key. IMHO.

Look its not hes not good, the fact he was chosen out of all the CBs in the league over the season, he must by definition be one of the best CBs, wolf, axel, burg were not in the team of the season which is based on the whole season not selected games, will we get him IDK but i wont question if hes good enough.

I acc dont think he is that fast from when ive watched him. Pace certainly isn't a stand out attribute. But he reads the game very well and is super physical. His long legs allow him to win a lot of slide tackles from battles you wouldn't expect him to.

You are spot on about pace though. We need more of it. Right now, Morsy needs a faster, more mobile partner who can cover a lot of ground. Our left winger needs to be faster and probably harder working than Broadhead is. And our number 10, might need to be slightly more physically capable than Chaplin is (Omari would be great) and then like a Zian Flemming and Chaplin backing him up.

Agreed pace is a simple point to point measure. Reaction speed in terms of speed of turn, ability to just put a block in etc is equally importantly. Maybe agility is a better term along with decision making.

However we need to upgrade on all these qualities with no offense to our current squad.
