But at the same time you'd probably see it as a challenge to battle them for a place. However, does seem he's moving on and a feather in the club's cap if he sees joining Town as the best way to continue his development.

For me it just reinforces how important it was to keep McKenna. Think it might be as much a case of Omari seeing joining McKenna as the best way to continue his development and if he had ended up managing Brighton or somewhere else then he could have gone there.

More than a feather in the cap maybe. You've got to imagine there were a lot of clubs taking a look. I know Stuttgart were mentioned but it seems such a path for young English talent to move to Germany in particular, and develop to be sold for a decent profit. I can't believe Omari went under the radar.

Indeed, very surprised that a bigger club hasn't come in for him. Also that Chelsea don't seem to see a future for him there and aren't sending him out on loan again.

This is a club that didn’t think Salah, De Bruyne, or Lukaku were good enough and moved them on…I think you’re being a little generous!

Am I missing something? Didn’t Hutchinson cost Chelsea £5m? So he wouldn’t be down as ‘pure profit’ and therefore doesn’t matter if he’s sold before 1st July?

Chelsea moving for quite a few players, including KDH it seems. Would appear they're looking to raise funds for transfers.

Fair point! And they seem to be managed even worse than they were then at present.

I'm imagine that McKenna is getting a fair few players attention now, in the way he developed so many of our players over the last couple of years, Omari included.

Think it will make a bit of a statement him coming here, other players who might not have looked at us might consider us more as a result.

I read somewhere that Chelsea are trying to follow the Man City model of selling young developed talent at decent prices. Presumably as this banked profit helps them offset the FFP for the mega stars.

This is why it was important we got a signing or two in the doors early. Not just because we as fans want to see it but it could help as you say attract others.

It's alright saying you're going to sign..... but being able to show who you've already signed is a massive help.

Thoughts on the Philogene link, Phil? Even if there’s interest there from us, can’t see him coming here with the other linked interest. (Not sure we’re in a position to pay another large fee if we get Hutchinson either).

I honestly think if we are spending that on hutch then it's just the start.

Especially when you consider the rumoured bid for that Greek striker

I reckon there's probably something in it but bigger players seem to be in the race for him, so would guess we're outsiders. Think we need someone to play on the left, so you can see where he would fit in. Can see us paying a couple of big fees, a few more £5m-£10m and a couple of frees and that would get us to seven or eight players. Think we'll look to spend around £70m or so.

Think we would look to spend something approaching that sort of figure for a striker as well.

Oh, I fully expect us to continue spending, but not sure we’ll chuck £25M - £30M on Philogene if we’re paying £22M for Hutchinson and clearly in for Ioannidis too.

FWIW, I think Philogene would be an incredible signing, he’s destined to play at the very top.

My thoughts have always been spend big on a core 5 and squad fillers around it.

New GK
New CB
New CM
New 10. Hutchinson
Striker

Additional Squad quality
Johnson

Seems they're cashing in early though. I wonder what his value might be next summer if he's spent a season on loan in the Premier League and has made an impression, although he would only have a year left on his contract at that point.

I reckon Johnson would be the number one number two, so to speak. Think that's pretty much where I'd see the additions. Another central midfielder and another number 10/wideman on top of that, I'd say.

They're neck deep in players full stop! But you'd think they'd see the potential for OH to get to their level. I'd anticipated a Premier League loan, indeed he seemed indicate a loan was his likely move when we spoke to him in the season.

Think Chelsea are in a slightly tricky position, if they want to sell him next summer or give him longer to develop them they really need to offer him a new long term contract on improved terms. He might not want this, they might not be up for it. That rules out a loan for him as if he goes out and tears it up then they'll have loads of interest in him next summer but no bargaining position to get a good fee for him with a year left on his deal. His value now is high, especially to us, so I guess their view is it's best to cash in.
