What a 'choice.'
Notable on the who to vote for thread how many are going to come out feeling a little bit dirty.

A little thought as you enter the polling booth to make your mark.... on 08:07 - Jul 4 by BanksterDebtSlave

Seems to me that almost nobody is actually voting FOR something today. What a state of affairs.

I disagree. People are voting for something. Not only more competence and responsibility, but also to shift the country back towards what (in global terms) could be considered a centre-left position.

I know people deride moderation, because it doesn't promise easy answers to tricky issues. But it does at least allow the implementation of individual progressive policies (e.g. on the environment) within that structure. Without barking mad ideological elements which trash the economy or damage international relations.

“Centre Left”? Which party is that then?

I am. I’m voting for a local MP who represents our constituency well.

No it wasn't. You and I both know full well it was a sarcastic comment, so why tell porkies?

There are no half sane parties at the moment, they go from one extreme to the other. You are only kidding yourself if you think otherwise .

You know what, though? Based on the utter mess in which we find ourselves, that's absolutely fine by me. All today is about is getting the Tories out and, hopefully, giving them the kicking of a lifetime from which they never recover.

John Oliver summed it up perfectly in that video I posted last week:

“If a wild badger broke into your home and f**ked everything up for 14 years straight, tearing absolutely everything apart, you would think: ‘OK, you know what, we’ll worry about redecorating choices later. Right now, that badger needs to f**king go.’”

Sorry to disappoint. We will still be in the same mess in 5 years, regardless of who is in charge.

I am VERY excited about seeing Labour wave their magic wand and making everything perfect.

That sounds like you haven’t been paying attention. Labour aren’t wheeling out the magic money tree, which is part of the reason why the Corbynites are getting the hump. I don’t think Starmer’s Labour is anywhere near progressive enough economically either, but it is what it is. At least we’ll have a serious government again, who’ll get things done. He’s already said they’ll extend the parliamentary session into the summer recess so they can get cracking. Under Sunak, the length of the parliamentary day had reached record lows.

Old Adage:

Voting isn't marriage, it's public transport. You're not waiting for "the one" who's absolutely perfect: you're getting the bus, and if there isn't one to your exact destination, you don't not travel - you take the one going closest to where you want to be.

I like that analogy, and you're right - It's definitely easier to get on public transport than in marriage, oh gee.

Indeed. Armagh's making a straw man. No-one, anywhere, has even remotely suggested Labour will wave a magic wand and making everything perfect.
