Shouldn't really be a penalty but I can see how that can be perceived as dangerous play by the defender, studs up, out of control.
Compared to some "high foot" decisions I think this was more dangerous than most.

That’s not right though is it, who got sent of for Cov vs Leicester last season for a similar one but from the side? Everyone said it was rubbish but a foul and this is the same. It’s a late challenge and even though it’s changed nothing it’s still a foul in the modern game.
Edit: it was Fatawu that got sent off but the challenge I’m thinking of was Bobby Thomas for the penalty. [Post edited 10 Jul 2024 20:45]

What? That doesn't make any sense whatsoever. The scrutiny is higher, yes, because the potential outcome is potentially more impactful - but that scrutiny is only there to see if it's a foul or not, not whether it meets some hypothetical threshold for a penalty to be given. | |
