Olympic boxing controversy on 10:42 - Aug 3 by DJR | A slightly more balanced article from the Guardian. https://www.theguardian.com/sport/article/2024/aug/02/boxing-imane-khelif-lin-yu Interestingly, the English, Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish amateur boxing associations aren't members of the IBA, having joined a rival organisation along with 33 other national associations. As an aside, I am not sure whether they have expressed any view on the issue. |
From what they were saying on R5 Live earlier this week, it sounds like the IBA have basically been discredited and stripped/denied their former powers. Something about links to the Russian crime scene and political shenanigans. Basically they’re deemed untrustworthy. They didn’t release the results of this supposed gender test to either the boxers of their coaches (or anyone else). And the supposed tests have been reported as having taken place a year before these boxers were banned. People are just taking their word for it from what I can see. So it all sounds like a bit of a mess, with rumours of grudges, playing politics, etc. Or maybe they’re just rubbish at comms and the tests were all above board. Nobody knows until any evidence is shared. [Post edited 3 Aug 2024 21:01]

A mess that can be cleared up with a simple cheek swab test. [Post edited 3 Aug 2024 21:12]

Not unless different bodies change and unify their criteria. That’s part of the issue here with the IOC using passport status. But agree that would be a sensible way forward. The IOC could have done it and then cut all this off before it had the chance to be an issue.

Olympic boxing controversy on 10:01 - Aug 3 by GlasgowBlue | What an absolutely ridiculous question. Of course women should serve in the armed forces and the Police service. |
Not really a ‘ridiculous question’ though, is it? They’re much more likely to suffer lethal violence, far in excess of a punch in the boxing ring, in either of those professions. As Ryorry pointed out to you, they aren’t entering into a boxing career under coercion. It’s their rightful choice of career.

Call me old fashioned (again) but who in their right mind thinks women who serve as police officers should be punched hard? Maybe you do? Who knows?
