I personally succumbed to the half and half scarf.

I’m sorry. Or am I?

It’s. A good memento imo. It could be a historic occasion. I got one for me and my son to look back on as our first PL game in 22 years.

I got it and put it straight in a bag though, no need to wear it.

Save them to sell for the next ten years.
I mean, we'll be playing Liverpool at home once a season for the foreseeable future, won't we?

Try to sell them at Anfield?

Presumably we are talking about unofficial/counterfeit merchandise purchased from street traders.

That's a very fair point with which I'd agree, but the issue of contention was that some on here were mocking people as "weird" for buying them purely & simply from the perspective that the dissers consider them as somehow 'uncool' or unfashionable items similar to cardigans.

Cue posters pointing out that they bought them as souvenirs of a red-letter day (sorry!) in our history, for kids, for elderly people etc. Not that anyone has to justify their reasons.

Seems much weirder to me that some choose to sneer at their fellow-fans for their fashion choices than to buy the half & halfs.

Although I was impressed by the bloke who had 20-30 programmes for sale, £10 cash.
Had obviously purchased them early from one of the booths and then when the massive queues appeared he stepped in to make a few pounds.
You don't see enough entrepreneurs like that these days.

Each to their own. If people want to buy a Liverpool kit and change clubs, it’s up to them. A brummie friend of mine in his yoof used to go round the different clubs with his mate Alan Smith (former Arsenal player) before deciding on West Brom. Not something I understand.

If people want a badly knitted half and half scarf (a child in front had one - it wasn’t the best creation ever) presumably produced for pennies in some sweatshop somewhere, their choice.

Personally I’d have thought a programme, pin badge and a few camera phone pics plus an ITFC scarf costing possibly less than £15/£20 going into the pocket of a street trader would be better - but we are all free to spend our money as we please.

I wouldn’t be seen dead wearing another club’s colours, unless it was to raise a bit of money for a good cause. The thing is my father would have left me on a cold hillside had I shown any such desire and such things existed.

This is not about mocking people who buy such things. People have different reasons and motivations and of course it’s up to them - I’m not their judge. But the fact of the matter is I still find it a strange thing to do.

Just a view.

Not sure it’s historic as we have played Liverpool many times in top flight football and the premier league , I just don’t get why anybody ( for any reason) would want to buy an ipswich scarf with Liverpool on it .

It isn't that long ago posters used to sneer at the thought of anyone over 25 wearing a football shirt. Judging by yesterday they are clearly now in the minority.

Nothing wrong with a half & half scarf, there were even Liverpool fans wearing them yesterday, presumably to remember a special occasion.

I was thinking about this, the old boy in a sports shirt snobbery.
I think thats long gone, and as a middle age Burley era fan, good too. Plus I keep myself fit, so not a bad fit for me.

There's a rather lovely piece in September's "When Saturday comes" about half and half scarves.
It's one person's story about why one is so important to them.

The number of people wearing shirts was amazing, if we sold 60,000 last season then I'm sure we will go beyond 100,000 this.

Just one observation: for the older larger males amongst us, like me, a slightly tight fitting away shirt still looks OK, home just, but the I'll fitting pink shirt.. NO.
You're medium polo shirt from M&S may fit nicely, but the pink Chinese manufactured third pink shirt doesn't. It makes it look some kid is walking down the street while blowing a massive chewing gum bubble.
Now I'm no fashion icon and certainly a few pounds over, ok stones over, but as my US friend always comments on her fellow female citizens 'wearing slim fitting lycra doesn't make you look slim, the opposite'. Fellow chunky mature males, there is nothing wrong buying the size above your normal size.
