Points for Safety 18:19 - Aug 22 with 2658 viewsSamuelowen88

Early I know but had a look at the last 10 years.
These are the points that would have seen you safe (18th + 1pt)

23/24 27
22/23 35
21/22 36
20/21 29
19/20 35
18/19 35
17/18 34
16/17 35
15/16 38
14/15 36

Average : 35
Lowest: 27
Highest: 38

35pts is 0.92 ppg

Not really sure where I'm going with this but thought it woth posting.

That’s actually a fair amount of points isn’t it.

Squeaky bum time.

Win at home and draw away v teams 10th - 20th (10 teams as we'd be one of them) = 40 pts. Job done.

I’ve been saying it’s only 10 wins and 5/6 draws, think it sounds better when it’s put like that, and it’s doable.

Could be less with the pending points deductions as well!

Im sure we will get over 35 points once we get going. But getting going is the tough thing in the league with the way games are spread and periods without a home game. Also knowing how things have gone in recent seasons there will be a new threshold level set for fending off relegation.

Wins at home against Fulham, Everton, Leicester and Bournemouth and a draw against Newcastle. Chuck in an away win at Southampton and draws at Brentford, Forest and Wolves and that is 19 points by Christmas. Home wins against Southampton, Forest, Wolves, Brentford and West Ham as well as home draws with Brighton and Spurs. Chuck in an away win at Palace and draws against Bournemouth, Everton and Leicester and that's another 23 points. So that will give us 42 points.

Or you can do what I am going to do and that's take each game as it comes and enjoy each and every one of them. What will be will be.

Just go with 40. Some of the recent points totals are going to be impacted by points deductions, which you cannot guarantee

I remember our first season in the Prem (well ,it was everybody's first season in the Prem but you know what I mean). We were 5th at the end of the calendar year, turned out we needed that great start to avoid relegation in the end.

It's us.

The team that needed 156 points to finish above third placed Wednesday and 135 points to finish above Leeds.

Fully expecting staying up will take the 'magic 60 points' this season lol.

I remember I was on holiday in January and I think we beat Everton 3-0 away and we reached 40 points.

Everyone was singing “We are staying up”

I presume that was the season we came 5th.

Memory fades.

Indeed by game day 23 after 26 games we were 4th on 42 points and then just faded away, ended the season 16th with 52 points.

To survive it's all about going on a run where you don't lose. Nick a win against those around you and don't get spanked and lose confidence.

It's going to be super tough with the levels of quality and physicality in the modern game. But if anyone can do it it's this squad and manager.

Such a weird season, that one. By early January I think we'd just beaten Man Utd at home and Tottenham away and were sitting fourth (if memory serves). Some in the media were talking about us as genuine title contenders at that point. And then we just collapsed and finished 16th (I think).

Throw out the top 6. That leaves 13 teams/26 matches. 10 wins and 10 draws out of those 26 = 40 points.

So after man City's match ..we can divide the remaining season in to quarters..so every 9 games we to get 9 to 10 points out of a possible 27 ..is that achievable !!! Surely it is with the squad of young talent we have now

Given how many points we have needed for automatic promotion over the last two seasons you can bet it will require a record amount of points for safety.
