Is it time to drop Davis 19:48 - Aug 25 with 5932 viewstetchris

We know he can’t defend very well so maybe we should play Townsend at left back and put Davis in midfield

Sorry, the post of scapegoat is already being filled and we have a first reserve. But Davis is close, so keep on pressing.

So given we have a new midfielder or two and one or two already at the club, which bit of midfield do you want to stick him in?

Jeez.

Presumably left wing? OK, so we just signed someone for £15m to fill that role but...

The original post has 40 down votes. I think Davis has some way to catch up to the number one scapegoat, even on here.

I preferred Humpreys at left back. Still don't know why we loaned him out. Just my opinion, I think Davies would be far more effective as left midfield with his running ability up and down the flank.

Certainly would not drop him,but I am also not blind to the fact that he does have issues defensively and has in all 3 divisions we've been in recently...errors,own goals and giving away penalties...a bit of the Trent Alexander-Arnolds in what he brings far outweighs him being dropped...but nobody is guaranteed their position.

Hoho. Excellent wind up.

But it is ironic that the only defender (in the loosest sense of the word) who is likely keep his place is the only one who is a poor defender.

Agree with the title of the OP, but not the OP...the way Davis has played in the first 2 games, I'd definitely be leaving him out for the Wimbledon game

Yeah, that's the best way for players to learn. Drop him and cash in before the window shuts.

Imagine virtually the entire starting X1 will be dropped for the Wimbledon game. The Op is obviously on the wind up.

This was the player the majority of fans thought was our best player not so long ago and most were dreading him being poached by a PL club.
In two games he has faced two of the best wingers I can recall seeing.
I would make the point that in those circumstances he needs some help from a defensive mid fielder.
How often have we seen defenders doubling up on Hutchinson?
Yes the PL has a higher calibre of players and to double up does leave space for others to exploit but I don’t think it’s wise for any defenders to expect to contain wingers of their pace and skill.
He surely won’t be the only defender in the PL to have problems this season against players that good.
Lay off him he doesn’t need people moaning after only two games.
How about a bit of support?

Davis is mostly definitely much better in his wing back, attacking mode, than he is defending. Not sure if he just gets caught up field ( understandable given the role of wing back), and his assists record is second to none. But the out and out defending part of his game is not quite as strong, but as for “dropping him”, I’m not sure who we’d have to replace him as a left back or similar role of wing back. I know nothing of Townsend to comment on him.
