Odsonne Édouard 12:37 - Aug 27 with 4776 views | SitfcB | Premier League new boys Ipswich will switch their striker search to Odsonne Edouard if Armando Boria's move collapses completely. The Tractor Boys have sounded out Crystal Palace about Edouard who is also fancied by Italian side Atalanta. Ipswich hoped to land Borja from Chelsea until doubts were raised about the loan swoop. Now French star Edouard is the alternative and available. Ipswich would take him on loan and Palave may agree if there is a £20 million deal down the line. Palace are closing on a deal for Arsenal's Wddie Nketiah to push Edouard further down their pecking Via Alan Nixon. [Post edited 27 Aug 2024 12:41]

Hmm, do you think so? Palace fans seem to be on a major downer about him. On paper, he sounds like a solid get - oven-ready (played both games so far this season) and capable of getting 7-9 goals a season.

At least he can do something for us now, which is more than can be said for Broja.

Odsonne Édouard on 12:54 - Aug 27 with 4179 views | BlueandTruesince82 | Celtic are apparently keen to take him back. TBH if Broja is out for 7 weeks as is plus the other questions I'd much rather we moved for Edouard, IDK if 20 mil feels a bit steep but would be a solid signing. I really think Hirst can step up, just needs to stay fit

Odsonne Édouard on 12:55 - Aug 27 with 4172 views | itfckenty | tbh, I think he would be a better shout than Broja - albeit slightly older, played pretty consistently over many years, fewer injuries, averaging prem goals of 7, scored plenty for celtic, potentially cheaper, and has regular football in the prem. I would imagine this is a lower risk than Broja for sure.

That shouldn't be the benchmark for a signing this week, though. He needs to fit the profile. Edouard isn't renowned for his pressing or his speed of thought. He's not a particularly good, instinctive finisher, either. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

It does depend on who is available, though, and how far our scouting network stretches. Despite the number of signings we've brought in, we are still lacking Premier League experience in the squad. That's something else he will provide.

Odsonne Édouard on 13:09 - Aug 27 with 3688 views | burnbudgiesburn | Palace fans not overly keen on him and want him gone. 'McKenna has built a squad full of hard working players who are passionate and give 110% each week. Everything that Odsonne Edouard is not.' Others say he is currently being played out of position and it shows. But if we went by what other clubs fans say we would never have got Hirst, so we've been here before.

That appears to have been the case at Palace but he was a different class at Celtic, too dangerous for defenders to take their attention off him for a minute. [Edit: 'attention' inserted, was thinking about 'eyes' but wondered if that would cause confusion in the 'eyeing', 'closing in' and 'imminent' debates later...] [Post edited 27 Aug 2024 13:30]

Odsonne Édouard on 13:20 - Aug 27 with 3319 views | Vegtablue | This makes a lot of sense if they sort out Nketiah negotiations. Plenty of newspaper talk that Edouard needs a move, with Palace fans having had enough of him and now making their displeasure known in the stands. He was something of a legend at Celtic, admittedly a pub league compared to the Prem. Below from the The Palace Way: "When it comes to involvement in the attacking phase, Édouard is relatively muted. It’s not down to a lack of effort - he regularly finds himself in the box, displaying his desire to be at the heart of the action. However, he is a player that thrives off balls into the box instead of slow and central build-up, and Palace has never been able to regularly play to his strengths. As a result of being a more traditional poacher, Édouard’s ability to play with his back to goal is severely lacking. He appears both slower and weaker than the majority of centre-backs he comes up against, and rarely contributes in a target-man type role. Instead, his best link-up occurs in counter-attacking scenarios, when he is able to carry the ball forward before taking it on himself or setting a winger through on goal - as demonstrated by his 0.85 key passes per game this season. Édouard should be lauded for his defensive qualities, where he has succeeded in filling the gap left by his predecessor, Christian Benteke. His aerial tendencies see him regularly challenging for and winning headers, whilst his ability to block shots adds an extra layer of defensive contribution to his game. This aspect of Édouard frequently goes unnoticed, with more of that credit going towards the in-form Jordan Ayew. Additionally, Édouard's availability is consistently high, with the Frenchman missing only two matches this season through injury.". His "ability to play with his back to goal is severely lacking".... we need someone to join the dots between #9 and Omari, Szmods and Clarke, no?
Odsonne Édouard on 13:27 - Aug 27 with 3074 views | Simonds92 | Just read a Palace article linking him to Celtic in which it states he has a year left on his 90k per week contract 🤯 He's also not very good at all! This would be terrible business in every aspect.

Yeah, ha ha, but I think you would find that you weren't. And come away with a few more bruises but a greater expectation to be fit for the next game than in the Premier League. But that apart Édouard has more than a season of Premier League experience now, he knows all but two of the opposition defences and must be getting more ideas of how to unlock them into place. Whether it was all the uncertainty around the management team, whether Palace are a team with a few too many big time Charlies or just the wrong mix for him, I would place faith in McKenna (should the player be brought on board) to develop him within the system and make him comfortable in a central attacker role that would pay dividends. Of course this is all dependent upon whether the link is just paper talk or has anything in it. As Glassner has started Édouard in both Premier League games so far I have my doubts and suspect he could be one of the foundation stones of a different Palace going forward (in both senses.)

Do we? We hardly ever ask our number 9 to play with their back to goal.

He hasn't been able to meet the expectations of Palace fans here but that doesn't mean he would fail to impress us, given they were hunting a top half finish last season and had Eze, Olise to compare him with. We need a striker and he seemingly needs a new home, so if a betting man I would stick a pound on us being interested.

I'm not too bothered about what a few Palace fans think tbh. I'm sure you'll find Celtic fans that have a completely different opinion. Blackburn fans told me Hirst wasn't cut out for the Championship and there were very few better last season.

It's not the lack of form that worries me, I just don't think he's the profile of a McKenna #9. He's nothing like Broja.
