Tom Fellows on 11:39 - Aug 28 by DarkBrandon | How many more players do we want? |
Agreed. I even think the signing of Ogbene was too much. I'd have been happier if we had signed a dedicated number 9 instead. This Tom Fellows link can't be true, surely!? Its actually starting to make me feel ill the amount of money we've spent! [Post edited 29 Aug 2024 14:48]

Tom Fellows on 14:33 - Aug 29 by portmanking | These are all PL players now. As another poster's stated, we got £1m for Ahadme. Even if your calculations for those 3 are correct, that's still almost half the cost of Fellows covered. |
Why do we suddenly need to cover the cost of fellows?

After any centre forward deal, we're going to be close to our FFP headroom soon.

Oh yeah I get that, I just wondered why suddenly we needed to fund this specific transfer over all others lol.

Tom Fellows on 13:58 - Aug 29 by portmanking | The only thing I've wondered is if we're managing to sell a couple of players for reasonable money. Let's say Edmundson goes to Boro for £4m and Harness goes somewhere for £1.5m. All of a sudden, you're getting Fellows for £6m-£7m. It may be that the club think that's a deal too good to miss. |
Think they'll probably go for free or very low fees.

Club told me there was nothing in it, think others were given the same message. Don't really see where he would fit in anyway. We're already four over the squad limit - assuming we sign a striker - and who else would we look to move on? Everyone else would appear to be someone in the plans.

Tom Fellows on 13:52 - Aug 29 by Simonds92 | Just read this.... He would be another one I would have been really excited by at the start of the summer, he looks fantastic every time I've seen him. However, it really does look like we might have too many options in those front positions to keep everyone happy. |
Ryan Kent was also a Football Insider 'exclusive'. 😅

Fellows would be an U21 squad member... he's only just turned 21. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

If we need two in every position, why make this signing? We're now well stocked in the forward lines bar maybe an out-and-out 9...assuming Al Hamadi is going on loan. [Post edited 29 Aug 2024 14:49]

I wonder if any of Burns, Broadhead, Hirst would not be included in the 25 until January? Depending on their injury prognosis's (prognosii?)

Prognoses aha and I wondered this too, presumably you're allowed to add them back in the next window. *Add them back through making room in January. [Post edited 29 Aug 2024 14:53]

3rd choice though or in a rotation system. I can't see it. Harness knows his place in the order of things and seems OK with it. An £11m signing to compete and start down the pecking order feels problematic from the outset.

I don't understand why you're so against us signing quality young players? If he's available at a price we can afford, he's a no-brainer. Half-decent season in 24/25 for us would double his value instantly.

Without lending credence to this rumour, we're hoping to have forked out good money on a couple to not be starting the majority of the season. Signing a primarily substitute player for £11m doesn't feel too outlandish in that respect, but agree I don't see this happening. Put the money towards the best striker we can afford. Delap £15m Hutch £18m or £20m Clarke £15m Szmodics £9m Ogbene £8m Broja or alternative (to be £20m-£30m if survive)

Because we've been here several times before in our history where he have too much competition and too high an expectation set because of the money spent and it can turn sour very quickly. We have excelled in the last two seasons because we have had a lean, tight squad with a really good balance. I feel that signing a 5th player to play RW is excessive. This needs to be done gradually, not all at once. Its starting to feel like Cook's pre-season of '21.

I still think it would be overegging in terms of the squad. Kieran said last night that they'd been looking for one more in that area of the squad when talking about Ogbene and the club was pretty vehement that there was nothing in yesterday's link.
Tom Fellows on 15:18 - Aug 29 with 1023 views | Len_Brennan | If this is true, it would most likely indicate that Broadhead would the one moving on when over his injury. Ruthless perhaps, but McKenna wants 2 quality players for every position & Broadhead is unavailable for another month at least, plus he is unproven in the PL. Fellows would not take up a squad position due to his age.

Using that projected list, do you feel that 8 players for 3 spots is too much? We use 6 per game! All it takes is 2-3 injuries, like Burns and Broadhead, and you're exceptionally thin. You can't compare 'our history' at this level. McKenna has his own way of doing things and he relies heavily on the 3 behind the striker emptying the tank every 60+ mins.

No, we didn't. We had a squad of 25 players, the same as we will do this season.

Also, an £11 mill signing who stays in the prem automatically becomes a £20 mill signing the year after, just how silly the transfer market is. Player trading will definately come into Ashton's thinking.
