Yep. It's a bit 'wild west' for vaping at the moment with so many products very obviously targeted squares at kids, a lot of whom have never smoked in the first place.

At the risk of sounding like a massive hypocrite, I think vaping is massive amongst kids and thats very worrying. They're so cheap compared to fags and the sweet tastes are moreish. I believe there's a health condition called 'popcorn lung' which seems quite nasty.
Weirdly enough, whenever I've swapped fags for vapes for a while, I've found myself coughing up my guts more.
Where they are handy is a half time pick me up on the quiet - not one of those jobbies that gives off tons of cloud, more the little pen ones. |  |

Mrs Chelters is a Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist and I’ve just had this conversation with her.
Her words - “The problem with Vapes is we assume it must be less harmful than smoking, and when used with a cessation plan it definitely will be. The problem is with those using vapes, not to quit, but as a cheaper form of nicotine addiction with no intention for reducing their vape use. For those, we just don’t have enough data on long term vape use to draw any conclusions and it’s not unreasonable to use a basic assumption that it COULD be as carcinogenic as other forms of smoking in those people” |  |

I've never touched them, I would be too embarrassed to order one in a shop tbh. Zero chance I'm standing in a queue as a grown ass adult and asking for a 'cherry & berry vape', sounds mortifying.
Used to dabble with fags occasionally but wouldn't say I was ever 'a smoker'. After a few pints and what not I might join others to be sociable, but never really liked the taste or smell of them. | | | |

'Popcorn lung' is linked to vaping in the US primarily due to the use of chemicals which are banned here and across the UK.

Ref coughing up when on the Vapes (after smoking) - that sounds like yer lungs cleaning out some of the sh1t from years of smoking. Think I read it's quite normal a few weeks after giving up to cough up a lot more than before - but it's not a bad thing.
So stick with it and you should find your coughing calms down.

Another thought, as nicotine is removed from tobacco during the cigarette manufacturing process and then added back in with specific amounts, should the Government start reducing the levels of nicotine permitted in cigarettes and vapes and other addictive chemicals to make it easier to give up both? | | | |

Listen to your boy! Use it as a tool to help get over the first few days/weeks. My father gave up smoking after being told by a GP he was affecting my two sisters and my health, he later said he could convince himself smoking was not the cause of his coughing and breathlessness, but being bluntly told he was damaging his kids health was not something he could ignore. | | | |

So I smoked from 13 to 31 - pack a day, Got to Nigeria and was paying $1 a pack - literally saving a fiver every pack I smoked. Was pushing 40 a day and developing a smokers cough.
Decided to stop and went cold turkey. Horrible 3-4 days then you lose the physical addiction, albeit still a habit. Bought a toy thing to fiddle with to help with the "what to do with yer hands" thing.
After 4 days - I just thought - that was horrible coming off fags - start again and I'll need to go through that again. The coughing up cr*p took a few weeks but was well off them by then and was expecting it.
That was over 20 years ago - think they say after 10 years off the fags your chances of cancer (assuming you haven't got it) are now no higher than a non smoker.
Your lad obviously loves his Dad which is cool - and I have a nephew who lost his Dad to cancer in his 40s - not for me to preach, but you know what you want to do - just got to find the way to do it! | |

the side effects are vanishing unlikely to be as bad as cigarette smoking (scientists would never say anything so new is 100% safe...) as the main problem with smoking is not the nicotine, but the carcinogenic act of inhaling burnt material.
that said, disposables should be banned and i'd be in favour of tapering the ban up the age groups as the proposal is with cigs. they're useful now to help people stop cigs, but when cigs aren't used, they cease to have a benefit. | |

They're a massive problem at schools up and down the country. Kids sneaking them into toilets because they can't go an hour without needing one. I think because they presumably taste "good" they're more accessible than fags ever were.
The social problem as well as the litter is a concern to me. But also there was a Tiktok trend of putting Spice and other drugs/chemicals in them and leaving them hidden somewhere. If you find it presumably you then take it, not knowing whats in it.
Plus at football there is nothing worse than a big waft of Agent Orange Woowoo hitting you in the face or Strawberry Cream Delight from a load of lads whilst they're all checking their bets etc. |  |
