Wouldn't you look before naming the squad? I guess these days they call up, then suddenly withdraw, probably after national medical team have taken a look.

Was thinking the same tbh. Clearly we wanted to a deal just not the deal Chelsea wanted.
By officially withdrawing we’ve potentially put the ball in Chelsea’s court to see if they can get the deal they want elsewhere knowing there’s very little chance they will.

Albania do not have to commit to paying thirty million quid at some point if he plays for them, perhaps we would have been fine with taking him on loan for a season despite the Achilles issue but if we ended up in a year's time with a player who was past his best and we had to part with money for the privilege I can see why we have said 'no thanks'. It's rumoured that he's going to be signed by Leicester today on loan. This is the kind of deal that you don't want to be doing under pressure on transfer deadline day. I don't doubt the player's ability. I just don't like the structure of the deal, the price, and the expectation that he is going to be out injured for another 6 weeks. | | | |

Leicester took that gamble last season on Tom Cannon and it paid off for them but there was the additional factor that they knew they would be losing at least one striker to the African Nations when he got fit. We are in the opposite boat in that we need a striker now whilst Hirst is out.
I can see Leicester taking the gamble but I don't think it would suit us at all unless we can't get a better solution and there is no obligation to buy unless he has contributed significantly to us staying in the division. |  |

If they are friendlies or nations league does it really matter? Not that familiar with the Albania squad but would guess he's one of their more important players so they might just be keeping him in the fold. | |
