IBC's outrageous plans to hike car parking fees in car parks around PR 18:43 - Sep 3 with 16376 views | ArnieM | Just to warn people who travel in to was Town from afar. The IBC have a reported, predicted, £22m + shortfall in funding and are planning a raft of cuts to save money. But one of their planned items to claw in money that caught my eye is their plans to raise car parking fees in the the car parks around Portman Rd on match days, from the reported £6 to a whopping £15!!!!! How the hell can they justify that? I don't think ITFC will be very impressed.

The new government has had two months to sort it out. And still nothing.

IBC's outrageous plans to hike car parking fees in car parks around PR on 16:57 - Sep 4 by Zx1988 | The P&R definitely needs overhauling and helping. The service itself is shockingly bad, especially trying to get back again after a match. It's okay getting in, but falls over under the slightest pressure. The traffic around Town after a match doesn't help, given that there are precious few bus lanes for the services to use. You can get on the bus (once it arrives...) outside the Willis building, and then spend the next half hour crawling from there to the station. Even if the operator made the service more frequent/reliable/cheaper, it won't get significant uptake unless/until the infrastructure can be improved. |
But if the thinking was broader they could, for instance, as referred to by Arnie, have buses parked on Portman Rd to the north of SBR while arranging that cars left the open car-park by the Princes St route only. In reality it's not so often the impossibility of these things as the lack of willingness to think around the problems and experiment.

IBC's outrageous plans to hike car parking fees in car parks around PR on 19:27 - Sep 3 by Dubtractor | I'm not here to defend IBC, and that proposed parking increase is a p1ss take, but pretty much every council in the country is facing a financial disaster in the coming years if they don't take really difficult decisions now. Years of austerity under the tories have left councils fooked, with council tax freezes for a number of years, reduced grant funding from central government, and the cost of certain services (especially people based services) sky rocketing as demand increases. |
Still chuckling at the difference votes and voters on our two posts here saying the same thing. Anyone who thinks that local councils are some sort of nefarious commies or whatever must go through life in a haze. As for council employees though……

IBC's outrageous plans to hike car parking fees in car parks around PR on 07:26 - Sep 4 by SheffordBlue | Double the time and more than double the cost for the people who come in my car to go via public transport. I go out of my way to car share with others. Walking would also be 'viable' but totally unpractical. |
I'd bet I'd get to the ground faster than you from A14/Stow station at 1:30 on a Saturday than someone crawling into Ipswich and then parking and walking. Also £15 of petrol and £5 to park versus £7 on train and £3 to park. I think it's much better to get the slick, frequent and non rammed London line. I don't disagree with your flippant example. You just opened by saying you had no choice. Which you do. I totally respect your stance but you can't say you have no choice but to drive. And back to the OP paying more for parking for a full car is reasonable and should hopefully deter people who don't care share. [Post edited 4 Sep 2024 23:18]

IBC's outrageous plans to hike car parking fees in car parks around PR on 18:55 - Sep 4 by backwaywhen | But it’s a Labour council and some how a Labour government (god help us ) at this moment in time ….please explain my friend ? |
14 years of underfunding can’t be undone in 8 weeks. You do understand that everything costs more and councils have had to accept less money from central government and been limited about their ability to raise council tax. That’s the problem and how on earth you can still hanker after that bunch of corrupt incompetent tools is beyond belief frankly.

IBC's outrageous plans to hike car parking fees in car parks around PR on 07:19 - Sep 4 by TractorWood | It's £7 return from Stow to Ipswich and takes 11 minutes. Again, it's an entirely viable option and reasonable choice to avoid parking in Ipswich and contributing to gridlock. The post I was responding to was someone who 'had no viable option' and 'had' to drive from doorstep to doorstep. [Post edited 4 Sep 2024 7:22]

I've travelled on Liverpool Street to Ipswich line often, never seen a station called Stow though.

IBC's outrageous plans to hike car parking fees in car parks around PR on 17:20 - Sep 4 by bournemouthblue | The Park and Ride is run by Suffolk County Council, I think IBC may have managed it on there behalf at one stage, it's now someone like Waveney Norse? The Borough Council seem to be getting flack for things that aren't really their fault, business rates a classic example which are decided by National Government |
