Based on experience and historical performances, O'Shea should be an upgrade.
On this season's performances, to date, he isn't. For me, today, he could have cost us two goals by losing the runner and his passing game in the second half, playing out of the back being key to the way we move the ball, was poor. But he does need to be given time to settle in.
From a personal point of view, I guess I love the idea of having an academy player in the line up - especially as he's the last player standing from the Evans era. I also felt he was one of our better performers in the opening three games, yet has been cast aside whilst other players, who played worse, are continuing to build up their appearance count. But they're probably my issues to solve!
A well reasoned point, but the opinion is very similar to my own. I just express it very differently which seems to trigger a good few people.

Inadvertently a great comparison. According to Wikipedia Delaney made 129 premier league appearances for Palace over 5 seasons. And from my memory was really pretty alright in the top flight.

No doubt DD was a great player for Palace but he didn't live up to the billing here.
Same applies to Chris Wood, plenty of PL appearances but was rubbish for us and I'm sure there is ample of examples throughout the last 25 years.
I am simply pointing out that is one meh game for DOS and one pretty poor one today (poor on and off the ball, kept losing his man and being out of position ) and so far, he looks like a downgrade.
Yeah I could post that but it wouldn't get the coverage would it.
People just seem to get triggered by a negative opinion on anything. Saying his performance was tosh doesn't mean I'm not supportive of Town but Luke and Cam would look at today and would think they could do a better job.

Didn't help that he was played out of position and jeered by his own so called fans.

I thought he was decent as well, we look a lot more solid with him.
So far I've not seen anything to say his better than Wolfenden who I believe is a better footballer at passing to our midfield players. Just because he cost 15 don't mean he should start. Hopefully he will go on to be outstanding centre back early days but Not convinced as of yet.

He's signed a 5 year deal. He'll have been given some sort of guarantee. This is a case of fitting in a new big money signing and an academy lad (who's equal in ability if not better) has suffered because of it.
We should've spent less on a woolfie back up.

Well that's the problem isn't it. You've just called out a new player as utter pish despite only conceding one goal in two premier league games and learning and building partnerships in a new team.
The level of disrespect and anti-support in your comment was poor. You're carrying on and doubling down against fellow fans with lines like "trigger" people. You let yourself down and people called you out for it. That's it.
I don't have an issue with you having an opinion on Woolfie being better or wanting him in the team (even if most can objectively see why O'Shea is in and McKenna knows his stuff). Just don't be disrespectful and you'll get a better response (to phrase it kindly).
We've just conceded one goal in two away Premier League games. That sentence would've been unthinkable any time in the last twenty years. We used to laugh at entitled Chelsea and West Ham fans calling multi million pound athletes rubbish but five games into being a Premier League club we've now got some of our own. Brilliant.

“Most can objectively see”
Pretty damning comment on those of us who don’t see that yet.
I understand O’Shea might be better than Wolf. I hope he is - we’ve spent a fortune on him and it’ll make us better if he is.
But - objectively - I haven’t seen it yet.

Where is the entitlement?
Whilst my OP here was obviously short and to the point, my issue was that he dawdled on the ball, slowed the play down and was often out of position. I mean his pass at the end of the game straight out of play summed it up
Are we really at the point where someone is not allowed to say someone is having a bad game and looks rubbish. From what I have seen from two games, I don't rate him.
But apparently I'm not being supportive and I'm a melt and wet wipe. Unfortunately internet insults won't keep me up at night.

True, though O'Shea wasn't exactly the mastermind behind that. It was more down to Muric playing a blinder at Brighton then Southampton missing the chances they had today - and two of them (one from Archer and one from Fernandes) were down to O'Shea being caught out of position.
In the long term, maybe he will be better than Woolfenden. But, just because of goalkeeping heroics and playing possibly the weakest team in the division, I'm not going to hold up one goal conceded in two games as some bastion that our defence has magically improved when it doesn't stand up to the eye test.

You know wolfys main contribution at cb was slow the game down draw the attackers on.. and pass it into morsy.

O shea is just playing the same game.
I know you'll disagree, but I feel O'Shea playing there ahead of Woolfenden just shows how much the latter actually did. For now, it feels like we're more stilted moving forward, with the midfield - Morsy particularly - not having the same option behind him in support where required. Our most fluid performance of the season so far, by miles, was Fulham.

Whilst I agree with some of your points, I shared an opinion. It doesn't affect the support for my team in the slightest. I don't think this will go on the team talk board as motivation. My opinion like most fan opinions are disposable, worthless internet drivel.
Last time I checked, that was allowed in society. I didn't personally insult, I just questioned his ability in comparison to another in a blunt manner. God forbid.
However, the insults coming my direction are personal. But unfortunately that seems to be the theme of the TWTD forum these days. You can dislike my opinions, feel free to ignore, feel free to feel how you feel but I shouldn't be silenced because I'm not part of the majority.

I see more diags from oshea which is something he was known for at Burnley. He is quicker on the turn and wins alot more headers than wolfy too.
If we were left with wolfy and greaves fine. But oshea is better.
On the ball it's a work in progress like all other outfield newbies.
Last week osheas playing with phillips and morsy. This week its cajuste. Morsy then taylor.
We also can't forget the opposition and how they are setting up.
So I agree wolfy was fine. But KM wants a complete package and he's got it. Two cbs that aren't beaten in the air. Two fast cbs. And two different types of ball players.

Woolfenden was superb in the air against Fulham. I agree it was something he wasn't the best at at the start of his career, but he came on leaps and bounds. He looked like a really good Premier League defender... and was then dropped. And for someone who, at this stage, for me, doesn't look any better.
Fair enough, maybe you think he looks like a Premier League defender and Woolfenden a League Two defender, it's down to personal opinion. For £8m the upgrade isn't there for me. But I acknowledge he does need to be given time to grow.

Not sure why you're going prem to league 2
I said if we didn't have o shea wolfy would be fine. That doesn't mean you can't improve on him and some having a go about o shea are ones who didn't like muric having his critics early so it's a bit hypocritical imo.
But look. I like both. But I can see why KM would prefer o shea. But it's nice to know we have wolfy should we need him.
But regarding heading last season. Wolfy was in the top 71% for winning headers. Oshea 97%.

Agreeing with yourself is not a good look. I reckon O'Shea will soon etablish himself as one of the first names on the team sheet, he's a fighter for sure.

But that's what the disagreement is about. Is O'Shea really an improvement on Woolfenden? A few (mainly those who have been critical of Woolfenden for a while) are saying yes. Others (yes, mainly those who have been defensive of him) are saying no.
Long term, O'Shea could be better, he has the attributes to do so. But, for me, there's been nothing from the three games where he's played - I acknowledge I'm being harsh here by including Wimbledon! - which suggests we're benefiting from having O'Shea there instead of Woolfenden right now.
