RIP Tom Tomalin 07:26 - Oct 28 with 9256 viewsITFC_Forever

One of the very best of Town fans, who did it all himself despite his health complications.

I'd say more mid to late 50s. He started going a few years before me and to away games on his own even more before me!

I've got memories of him featuring in the programme in the later SBR years and pretty sure I recall him being referred to as in his teens.

Younger than I thought then. He's clearly been following Town since before I was born, so I was just going off looks rather than anything else.

I believe he was 54 (going from Facebook) - August 1970

That would tie-in with Phil's assessment.

Phil is a couple of years older than me, and he summised that Tom was a couple of years older than him.

54th minute then.

Very sad news. I didn't know Tom personally but I do remember seeing him a lot when I was travelling to away games with the London Branch of supporters.
A legend back then and a guy who clearly gave a lot to help other Ipswich fans.
His dedication to watching Ipswich was incredible given the complications he would have faced.
But, from everything I ever heard about the man and from my brief snippets of conversations with him, I doubt he would have ever seen it like that.
I suspect he would have said he was just an ordinary fan following his team the length and breadth of the country but, that in itself, made him extraordinary.
He most definitely deserves a minute's applause on Saturday and recognition from the club.
RIP Tom

Actually, Tom was only a couple of months older than me if he was born August 70.

I thought you were only a couple of years older than me.... that would make you 4 years older.... you're definitely mid-50s then.

First met Tom about 25 years ago as my daughter, also a wheelchair user, decided she wanted to start following Town and started to come to games with me.
As has already been said he used to travel to all the away games on his own which was quite remarkable especially the difficulties wheelchair users can have using public transport.
A True Blue who will be sorely missed. RIP Tom

there's probably GDPR regulations around that. You can't just ask for someone's personal data and it be freely given. Perhaps I'll ring your bank and ask for your personal details. Who do you bank with?

His sister has been posting on his Facebook account, so I'm sure she's confirm that detail.

The club can check the database but won’t be able to give the info out.

I reckon the two might be slightly different situations, one just asking the club the age of a true blue so a mins applause can be given. And the other, a man ringing a bank to ask personal details. But you know that anyway, you’re just being silly.

They don’t even need to tell anyone prior to the game, could just put a photo up on the screen as a prompt.

And I don’t bank, have money in a shoebox.

‘I am so sorry to read this. I have many fond memories of chats we have had outside Portman Road.

Tom was the definition of ‘Super Fan!’ His attitude and determination to life was inspiring.

My deepest condolences… RIP Tom x’

Adam Tanner made a nice comment as well: "Very sad to hear of Tom Tomalin’s passing. I remember him being at youth, reserve and first team matches all over the country in all weathers, offering words of encouragement and a song - an amazing fan and character who will be sadly missed - RIP Tom."

Very sad. I worked with him on a BBC film Skalligrigg (You Tube) in the early 90s and since then our paths have crossed thousands of times following the Town home, away and abroad. He was intrepid to say the least. Timekeeping not a strong point. But brilliant, bled blue and white, amazing determination, could be very funny and will clearly be much missed. RIP Tom.

I messaged Matt about the club doing something as a tribute and perhaps getting a club representative at Tom's funeral.

Matt said: "I saw the sad news re Tom this morning. I will speak to the club when I am in tomorrow to see if anything is planned. And once we know when the funeral is then I am sure that the club will want to be represented.

He was an inspirational character and I always enjoyed bumping into him at the ground".

Also had nice messages from Frank Yallop:

"Really sad news about passing of Tom. I would say one of ITFC greatest fans. Really nice guy with such a positive personality. You will be missed Tom".

And Simon Milton:

"Also heard today and a very sad day. Lovely guy and truly loved the club. RIP Tom".

It would be really nice if the club were able to reach out to Tom's sister and a few significant faces could make a presence at his funeral or something for all the years Tom's dedication to the club has given.

I met Tom when he was staying at Banstead Place in Surrey. His Fisons shirt triggered a conversation around a shared passion! After that, we had many chats about the downs and ups of Town, including celebrating on the pitch together in 1992.
He was blue through and through, and remarkably independent, resourceful and mobile, despite his spina bifida.
He'll be missed at PR and at all those other grounds he somehow made his way too. Thanks for all your enthusiasm and positivity Tom
