Anyone else struggling to enjoy the prem? 11:55 - Nov 4 with 5096 viewssmithy91

The VAR controversies and uneven handling of small offences (bookings etc) are making it difficult to enjoy the premier league for me.

It feels like we will need to be hammering teams to have insurance against the refereeing to get a win. The general use of VAR is even worse than i had anticipated from watching highlights/international competitions.

I think fans need to think about rallying against the lack of accountability (refereeing and FFP), VAR and general bias as they did with the european super league. Because with the above we basically have a closed system (not to mention the disparity in finances), i.e. the top 6 , which seems to, more often than not, have extra protection from officiating.

Probably due to their recent wins, it appears now that Leicester also has some sort of support.

Won't lie, I'm actually hating it, hating seeing our team and manager struggle so much. It's actually killed a lot of my enjoyment of football, am looking forward to Saturday as we're not playing!

Largely enjoying the awaydays (west ham excepted), I have low expectations points wise but much like last year, the opportunity to go to new grounds/places which arent Cheltenham, Fleetwood, Morecambe etc appeals, as does the £30 price cap (PR is a 450 mile round trip so every game is time and money). We've largely done OK, decent atmosphere from the away end.

Been to PR 3 times. Disliked the first couple (Liverpool and Fulham) but thoroughly enjoyed Saturday. I thought the crowd were excellent

I've no really expectations about staying up or being relegated. 23/24 was extraordinary, and whilst I'm sure we look back at the Championship with rose-tinted specs, whatever happens we'll likely see quite a turnaround of players and staff over the next 18 months. Had we not been promoted every chance KM would have left, we'd potentially be mid-table in the Championship and we'd be wondering if we'd missed our one chance. Should the worst happen at least we're on the right side of the financial cliffedge so we should be competitive.

Best not to worry about it too much, let's see what the next 12-18 months bring, rememberng we're only in year 4 of the ownership, so we're we'll ahead of what we expected.

Man United will be an absolute circus.

I know that was then, but it could be again..

Really enjoying it.

Love seeing us “compete” in the PL. A continuation of KMs and our improvement as a team.

Hating the sh1t decisions but just have to live with it.

Your probably not enjoying it as we haven’t won a game yet unlike previous two seasons, it’s taken nearly half my supporting life to get back in top flight football and it’s definitely the place to be.

Its going to be a struggle but enjoy it for what it is and the ride we have been on and the players we have now you can watch, two years ago it was league 1 and this is sooooo much better!!

We've basically gatecrashed the 'big 6 mutual fellatio society' where the media and pundits fawn over these teams whilst paying scant regard to most of the others.

A league where games are played at times to suit the fanboys (and girls) sitting at home in their replica shirts and scarves - most of whom would struggle to point to where 'their team' played if handed a map.

We need to stick together, support the players as loudly as we can, and hope we can stick it right up the PL.

Personally would love it if we all chanted "SKY TV is ******* ****!" for the full 90 minutes of every game we are live on SKY.

Things I am enjoying:
In the words of the Three Amigos, we are fighting like men and not dying like dogs IF we go down, you know we will have given it our absolute best shot.
We are going toe-to-toe with some very established PL clubs and performing well.
The experience. It's nuts to think where we were and where we are now.
We've still got McKenna and I still think we will survive.
Leif, Hirst, Morsy, Omari and especially more recently, Chaplin and Burgess, proving they are Premier League.

Things I am not enjoying:
VAR. It should only be to check if something is over the goal line. Screw the rest of it.
Fans losing belief when there are so many games left.
Less games

Ok so anyone who wasn’t annoyed cast you eyes over this update from the Premier League app I just got on my phone. More focus from them (unsurprisingly) on Morsy’s naivety rather than the dodgy decisions.

Gut-punch equaliser shows Ipswich’s naivety

This was billed as a must-win game for Ipswich Town, a team yet to taste victory since promotion.

Saturday 2 November
Portman Road, Ipswich
Ipswich 1-1 Leicester

Jordan Ayew’s equaliser in the fourth minute of second-half stoppage time must surely be the most devastating, most nauseating goal conceded by any team in the Premier League this season.

It feels cruel to rub salt into the wounds, but Ayew’s goal was self-inflicted.

Down to 10 men, there is really no reason why four Ipswich players should burst ahead of the play on the counter-attack so late in the match. Doing so left gaps for Ayew and Jamie Vardy to exchange a one-two and equalise.

Kieran McKenna’s side showed a naivety in this moment that cost them dearly, although they will feel aggrieved about a 10-second spell that went against them, first Conor Chaplin going down in the box under a heavy challenge and then Kalvin Phillips receiving a second yellow for a foul.

But the fact remains - even after those decisions, Ipswich would have held on if they’d shown more restraint in the final minutes.

I agree with your point, re restraint with 10 men. But the fact it could/should have been 2-0 and 22 players on the pitch leaves a bad taste on what should have been a well deserved win. Referee and VAR changed the game fact. This cannot continue if you want a proper game of football. If this had happened pre premier league there would be serious consequences.
It stinks of match fixing.

VAR is totally separate from goal line technology, which has also been around in the Championship for a while.
The point about VAR when it was introduced was to eliminate howlers (NOT contentious decisions - hence the "clear & obvious) diktat) but unfortunately it's been used to apply another set of subjective eyes to most, but not all, contentious decisions. All this has done is add another extra level of inconsistency.

How long have you been watching Ipswich?

I have said it before and I say it again. "What's the difference between a biased ref and biased VAR officials" The only difference is you are paying more idiots to make the same errors. I think rugby referees seem to be far more up to it than football referees. Yes you still get the odd controversial decision. But it appears that virtually every game despite the extra technology and eyes on the game that for reasons that there can be many conclusions made many teams aren't getting the rub of the green. This makes VAR no better than having three officials overseeing a game.

Still enjoying it. Being in the mix with these teams and being a part of it, seeing us play the best etc, is far better for me than your standard trip away on a tuesday to Stoke.

The only thing i don't like is the 'lack' of games. So used to the league one/championship schedule it feels like we never play.

I'm not enjoying it. Was hoping for a few more points on the board but I'm finding it hard to watch matches that aren't covered by Sky. Fubo isn't working well for me so I may need to try others. Really need TownTV.

It's simple for me.

The Championship feels like football. The Premier League feels like business.

That's the biggest issue I have. The Premier League is a product. The Championship has been heading that way for some time but still has that element of anyone can beat anyone, any team can win the league from nowhere, whether it's a QPR or a Bournemouth or a Brentford or a West Brom.

The Premier League is three leagues within a league and the bias is there for all to see.

I love all the stuff that's a novelty right now. I've not been to Spurs for anything other than the NFL for more than 20 years. It'll be my first trip to Anfield for the same. My first time at Man City.

But once that all wears off completely then I'm done with it.

The overall quality of football at this level is clearly so much better, as it should be. Surely that makes a game more attractive to watch?
