Mark Ashton on Radio Suffolk from 6pm on 16:48 - Nov 4 by Zx1988 | It'd be a shame if they were only being held out of obligation, rather than a real desire to engage with the supporters. Maybe I'm being a bit dramatic, but with the various corporate-style shifts and missteps that have happened over the last six months or so, I'm getting more and more of a feeling that now the club is where it wants to be, the supporters can take more and more of a back seat as their share of the revenue pie gets ever smaller. |
Understand there will be a Fans' Forum in the middle/end of the month, date to be set.

That's really poor. Feels odd that he'd even refuse the question outright, if he could have easily answered with the party line of 'our sponsors objected'.

He can't say that though, can he? "Club Chief Exec blames sponsors for unpopular decision" wouldn't be a great way of attracting more sponsors would it?!

" we appreciate the feelings of the supporters but as always we ask they appreciate the reasons given and trust us that it benefits the club this way. We do however appreciate the fondness of the designs so we have found a way of incorporating it into the programme" Refusing to answer isn't great, he's not a politician.

Mark Ashton on Radio Suffolk from 6pm on 18:57 - Nov 4 by Zx1988 | F@@k sake. That's the one development that concerns me. MA himself spoke of O'Leary keeping him in check, and one of the themes from Bristol fans is that him wearing all the hats was a contributory factor to it all going wrong. You need separation of church and state in these roles. |
I would not worry too much what the swivel eyed weirds from Bristol C had to say. 3.5 years ago we heard the end of the world was nigh and the beast was amongst us. There we were facing another year in L1, Cheltenham and FGR awaiting us while BCFC were enjoying the security and smell of new paint at their refurbed ground and new training facility, established in the Championship. Tbf they’ve laid off for a while now and recognised there were other factors such as the owner’s competence. Not that they have anything to moan about. Ok so we are now struggling results wise but we are in a completely different world. For perspective see Holland’s interview with MA and KM. You take as you find. I get that what some bitter mush from Bristol who possibly thinks Trumpton was real might have a point, but how Ashton operates here was and is totally different to what was going on there. He’s got plenty wrong, but a helluva lot right too. Would I like to see a sounding board style chairmain like O’Leary? Yes. But I suspect Ed Schwartz fulfils that function. Certainly I cannot see Ashton mugging off the finance bloke with the cowboy boots who said of CEOs while standing next to MA ‘don’t p£ss on my boots and tell me it’s raining’. I sense there’s an awful lot going on at the club, much of it I’m sure we are unaware of. Could its Comms with the supporters improve? I think so, but let’s face it 50% of the fans forum was occupied by if I’m being kind odd/‘limited’ questions. What will be will be. Like the idea of improving the West Stand before tackling the Chicken Run/Portman Stand (old skool names). Makes sense to me. [Post edited 4 Nov 2024 22:19]

I think Matt Holland is being educated in all areas of the club to eventually take take a chairman's or even presidents role as the ultimate mouthpiece of the club. It won't happen anytime soon but if all those Grand predictions of where we are aiming then Mark Ashton will not be able to do it on his own.

Mark Ashton on Radio Suffolk from 6pm on 18:48 - Nov 4 by SitfcB | Increasing that by 4,000 will make room for the 4,000 from the Cobbold when that gets demolished! Assume they’re build up and complete new roof meaning no restricted views. |
Although this makes perfect sense, it all seems a bit cryptic to me. If the aim is to increase capacity to 40,000, we'd have a capacity of 34,000 when the West Stand is done. But surely the new Cobbold Stand will hold more than 6,000?! It will also be interesting to know how the club plan to increase the capacity of the West Stand, without major structural changes. Surely we can't just add a dozen rows to the back of the upper tier and bung a new roof on?!

Would have thought a new Cobbold stand double the size of the old one would add about 6k capacity so that plus the 4k extra in the Pioneer gives an extra 10k and gets us to 40k. Not an expert but I’d have thought building one mega stand with 10k extra seats would be cheaper than working on 6 plus 4k with one new and one extended old stand. Do wonder if this kind of investment is contingent on being an established Prem club but unless some serious progress is made soon then it’ll be a good long time before anything is built. Maybe too long for the current owners?
