I watched the current series on Netflix about UFOs. Which was interesting and many people were discussing their interactions with UFOs.
And then today on YouTube theres this latest Congress committee thing that was held yesterday. These seem like qualified and serious people giving testimony.
This stuff is easy to poke fun at, but why would these guys want to make stuff up?

Well, you know, you can't talk about fight club if there's no fight club... ;)
20 years ago today since the tic tac encounters started iirc. This is worth a watch imo if you were interested in George Knapps Netflix series
And those guys can't make it up, they were sworn in, lying to a Congressional hearing means jail time. Weirdly for some of them telling the whole truth, by breaking NDAs or national security also means jail time which is why some of the question's they couldn't answer in public session
But did you spot the reference in the hearing to the Rendlesham forest UFO/UAP. ?

Lying to a Congressional hearing puts you in jail, so just sticking to YouTube grifiting is way safer a career choice if that's your aim post military or intelligence agency, then setting yourself up for a grand jury indictment that noone forced them to give.
Luis Elizondo always tells the story about the U2, not Bono & the Edge, the spy plane, the US thought the Russians couldn't detect it because the Russians never spoke about it or mentioned it, and so the US could fly it with impunity. Till the Russians fired their newly developed SA-2 missile at one and brought down Gary Powers. At which point the US realised the Russians had been able to track a U2 all along but were waiting till they could demonstrate their capability to stop it and much of the U2 intelligence gathering prior to it had been spiked.
Now apply that to the Chinese weather balloon situation, NORAD can track objects smaller than a US license plate in orbit, they absolutely knew that weather balloon was there, were tracking it, and were allowing it to demonstrate its technical capability, so as to learn the most about what it could it do, maybe even lull the Chinese into thinking they could also act with impunity in US airspace.
It only became an issue when this balloon was very visible from the ground and it became something that couldn't be ignored, but you can't admit publically we knew about it and were intelligence gathering from it can we, so you send an F22 up and destroy it with a AIM9 missile. Which costs like 1 million dollars each btw. Accidentally atomising all the evidence and then claiming a debris retrieval would just then be too hard so we don't know nothing about it, honest.
But then what about the Canadian UAPs reported at the same time.
It's an interesting subject with a lot of points to consider.
Firstly, it's probably important to note that Knapp isn't impartial, his income is derived from UAP conferences and shows like this. That doesn't mean he's wrong but it's something to consider when evaluating what he says.
Having said all that, something is probably going on. The main possibilities are:
- Aliens - Other creatures from Earth - Military Tech - All of the above - Nothing
So in order:
Aliens
The real issue here is that with our understanding of physics it's very hard to get about in the galaxy. It's not impossible, a species expanding out at a reasonable fraction of the speed of light can colonise most of our galaxy in a few million years if solely devoted to the task but it would be a massive undertaking.
Now of course our understanding of physics is far from complete and there are theoretical methods of going faster than light but they require things which are currently impossible like negative energy. It is however safe to say if "they" could get here then the observed performance of various anomalies would probably be possible with that level of technology. It's certainly within the realms of what we could achieve with known technological pathways within probably a few hundred years.
The real question is why be all secretive? Would we be secretive if we went to another populated planet? Perhaps we would but it's hard to know. If they are aliens then their thoughts and motives would also be alien and hard to assess from a human viewpoint.
Other creatures from Earth
This one is very interesting although problematic. Given most of the interactions nowadays seem to revolve around large bodies of water why couldn't it be an aquatic species from Earth who are just rather annoyed at how we are trashing the planet and the oceans.
We know very little about the deep sea, we are constantly discovering new creatures and we have mapped very little of the seafloor. It's possible something could have evolved in the oceans a long time before us and they are simply further along the path of technological progress.
However, the big problem there is that from our understanding it would be incredibly difficult to develop technological civilisation underwater. Fire was extremely important in our development along with metallurgy and electronics and all are very hard underwater.
This hypothesis would however negate all the issues with time, distance and physics that occur when trying to get around the galaxy.
Military Tech
This is probably the most likely one of the three outlined above. It's certainly believable that some arms of the military wouldn't tell other arms what they are doing and the stuff we get to see is decades out of date.
The F117 and B2 stealth planes, still the pinnacle of military aviation technology both started development in the early 1970's and were operational in the mid 1980's. That's nearly 50 years ago now and if you think at what computers or cars were like then compared to now and extrapolate for aviation projects with huge budgets it's hard to know what kind of stuff they fly around which is 50 years of development ahead of that.
The tic-tac's really don't look like impossible tech if you take the B2 and extrapolate for 50 years of black budget funding. The other common ship which is sighted is the black triangles and they are almost certainly US black projects.
It's pretty much safe to say that the stuff we don't see if probably incredible compared to the stuff we do see.
All of the above
This one is the most fun, imagine if it was all of the above, now that really is a story if it ever becomes public.
Nothing
Hard to see that this is true but many people spend time creating analysis to debunk a lot of these videos so it's worth considering a point.
It's a debate that is going to run and run until governments come out and make a statement, even then there will be people on both sides who won't believe any such statement.

Thats quite an essay Stokie.
Other earth creatures - id say zero chance. Seems hugely unlikely.
Military tech - its just too advanced. Not an incremental step.
One explanation someone put forward on the netflix series is that its humans from the future. But i dont think even in theoretical physics we believe its possible to tine travel backwards.
Ive always been highly dubious but these video sightings, pilot sightings and people from the military saying they have seen it...it makes you wonder.

There was an interesting shift from UFO to UAP and then NHI (Non Human Intelligence). It does make you wonder.
I am convinced something is going on but who knows what. The religious stories make so much more sense if they were actually interactions with more advanced others.
Other earth creatures - id say zero chance. Seems hugely unlikely.
Military tech - its just too advanced. Not an incremental step.

"Other earth creatures - id say zero chance. Seems hugely unlikely."
Unlikely isn't zero chance. Let's say a creature evolved 30 million years ago that was amphibious, developed tech on land then decided it preferred the water. It's unlikely but so is traversing huge distances in space.
I personally think it's unlikely as well but that doesn't mean it's not considered.
"Military tech - its just too advanced. Not an incremental step."
Can you give some examples? We could easily be a number of increments on from stealth but we simply don't know. Trans-medium devices such as the tic-tac would be difficult to create but far from impossible. The speeds achieved underwater are impressive but are incremental steps on from super-cavitation which has been around since the 1970's [1].
I think some people underestimate human ingenuity, these could be military tech, possibly drones.
"One explanation someone put forward on the netflix series is that its humans from the future. But i dont think even in theoretical physics we believe its possible to tine travel backwards."
This one is very interesting. There is no reason why intelligent creatures have to be bipedal so the fact that aliens seem to be does mean it's plausible it's a further evolution of the human form.
Time travel is definitely possible within theoretical physics but it would involve a wormhole which once again requires negative energy which is impossible in current physics. Doesn't mean it will always be impossible though.
"Ive always been highly dubious but these video sightings, pilot sightings and people from the military saying they have seen it...it makes you wonder."
These people have always said they have seen these things, the real thing that has changed is that someone is leaking videos from the military which would never normally get seen. It's interesting however that the people discussing them who have seen the originals say they were much better quality and the released ones are downgraded.

I think it's pretty easy to dismiss religious stories though, most were written many hundreds of years after the event if the event even happened.
It's often motivated reasoning [1] that people use to shoehorn these stories to fit with the UAP narrative.

The netflix series and videos of the UFOs are describing objects moving and accelerating at incredible speeds. Not to mention changing directions that no engines could achieve.
One guy on the Netflix series says we have reverse engineered alien technology, which i guess could be an explanation.
But i find it hard to believe if humans could do this stuff then it would already be in the military and knowingly deployed. Why sit on huge technology advances.
The dark forest theory explored in the three body problem books suggests any advanced civilization would just wipe out a lesser civilization thats progressing at pace, due to their own potential future threat in an infinite universe. Maybe we are being monitored.
It all sounds very teenageish and anoraks watching too much x files. But its definitely hard to rubbish the people prepared to go in front of congress. I mean the navy neurologist saying he saw the emails going round concerning pilots worried about the UFOs getting close to operations....

"The netflix series and videos of the UFOs are describing objects moving and accelerating at incredible speeds. Not to mention changing directions that no engines could achieve."
Yes, I've seen it. It's simply not true to say that they change directions in a way that no engines could achieve as their engines are achieving it. To be clear, I am not saying they are military, it would be more interesting if they were alien but to simple dismiss alternatives isn't right either in my view.
"One guy on the Netflix series says we have reverse engineered alien technology, which i guess could be an explanation."
Could be true, we are good at understanding concepts but just because he said it that doesn't make it true.
"But i find it hard to believe if humans could do this stuff then it would already be in the military and knowingly deployed. Why sit on huge technology advances."
But as I've already pointed out, we have evidence that is 100% confirmed that the military do develop tech which is far advanced of what we see and then sit on it. Stealth was operational for at least a decade before anyone saw it. The SR71 was flying for a few decades before it was made public. The miliary sit on advances as it's advantageous to them.
"The dark forest theory explored in the three body problem books suggests any advanced civilization would just wipe out a lesser civilization thats progressing at pace, due to their own potential future threat in an infinite universe. Maybe we are being monitored."
The dark forest theory is interesting but it's also just a theory with no evidence to support it. In fact if the UAP's were alien it would discount the dark forest theory in this case as they haven't destroyed us.
"It all sounds very teenageish and anoraks watching too much x files. But its definitely hard to rubbish the people prepared to go in front of congress. I mean the navy neurologist saying he saw the emails going round concerning pilots worried about the UFOs getting close to operations...."
Once again, I totally agree that pilots are worried but that doesn't mean it's not military and it's definitely aliens.
The evidence needs to be impartially addressed which I am trying to do.
For the record, I would be excited if it was military or aliens, both would be incredible but I would prefer it to be aliens - confirmation of other life would be the greatest discovery that could be made.
The drake equation suggests we are far from alone.

Thats the clip from the netflix show. Assuming its not a total fake, theres no visible engines on the thing....
[Post edited 14 Nov 2024 22:30]
I've seen all the UAP videos, they have been around a while.
I agree you can't see engines but it still must have one of some description, probably some form of field manipulation.
You can look up "lifters" on YouTube that have been around for decades which have no engines but can hover using electromagnetic effects.
That is obviously not the case here, it's something much more advanced but if it's using fields of some description then the engine wouldn't need to be visible as it wouldn't provide thrust in the usual way.
All very interesting and it's clear there is a lot more information to come out or more likely be leaked.

Fascinating stuff... but if it's now appearing in Congress why are the BBC and other news outlets not reporting it? I would've thought these statements are quite a big deal.

"The real question is why be all secretive?"
If governments came out and officially acknowledged aliens exist the world would likely go crazy (or at least they think it might, and it's a reasonable assumption). People would be losing their sh!t, mental health problems would go through the roof with such an unknown to worry about, there could be rioting in the streets all over the world. It takes very little to set people off and this would be the biggest story in human history.
Which is partly why I think stuff is coming out like this, in dribs and drabs, dodgy footage and no definite answers as to what it is, to gradually prepare us. You can't just drop a bombshell like "aliens exist", you have to get people used to the idea I'd have thought.

I'm not convinced of the "world would go crazy" argument. That originated in the 1940s when things were very different. Science has moved on, most people accept there is probably life in the universe so why would they go crazy?
If anything it has the potential to bring people together and stop some of the bickering. We would after all be more similar to other humans we disagreed with than any alien.
