If we want to sign permanent players in January 13:58 - Dec 7 with 4390 views | MK1 | Then we are going to need to let a few go. Who would you let go? Harsh call on some who brought us here, but no sentiment in football. Hutchinson and Johnson seem more than capable for the front right, so perhaps Burns to Bristol City is a possible. Al-Hamadi isn't going to be a PL forward, so maybe a Championship side would like the option to take him. Chaplin isn't a PL 10, Portsmouth would love him back. And finally Luongo is unlikely to get much if any time for the rest of the season, so a club like Swansea would snap him up. Like I say, harsh, but reality needs to kick in if we are to stay up this season. Those 4 out with 4 improvements in and we have half a chance.

If we want to sign permanent players in January on 19:41 - Dec 7 by ArnieM | I think it speaks volumes that McKenna has elected to play O'Shea with a spine fracture, rather than put Woolfenden in the team. I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him leave either in January window or the summer. I think Woolfenden is vastly overrated on here by some, and he's had a run in with McKenna re being left out of the squad and not wanting to travel to Man City away because he was left out of the squad. And IF the suggestion on here by someone else recently that he was also responsible for leaking the team selection ( God knows why he'd do that!!), thrn I'd say that definitely marks his card. Another player not listed on possible out the foor list, is Broadhead. Had we ven able to sign the striker we were after in August, he was definitely leaving. So I'd suggest he'll be on his way also. Town will definitely be looking to bring in 2-3 ayers and to do that, there will definitely be departures. It's logical that those who fail to nail down a regular place will be high on that list.... |
"...and he's had a run in with McKenna re being left out of the squad and not wanting to travel to Man City away because he was left out of the squad" That's the Man City game where he played?

If we want to sign permanent players in January on 15:21 - Dec 7 by jayessess | Find these threads have a tendency to get a bit ahead of themselves? The starting point seems to be "who don't I particularly rate" and then make a big list from that. But that's not the club's process at all which (generally) is to build the first team and then discard players who've been pushed down the pecking order. So, the real question is where would we look to reinforce our starting eleven and who would be surplus to requirements if we did. IMO we'll look for a right winger, but will still need Burns as backup. We'll look for a striker and send Al-Hamadi on loan. Can't see us getting more centre backs or centre midfielders (or getting rid of any). Could get a right back if Axel's injury is bad enough (but even then we're probably happy with Johnson as first choice there). We recruited twice in the left forward slot already, we surely aren't going to go there again? Mayne in the central 10 slot, I could see that pushing Chaplin down the pecking order. |
I do rate all the players I listed, but if they are not making an impact when starting or coming on from the bench, then unfortunately, they need replacing. Burns, Chaplin and Luongo have been absolutely brilliant for the previous 2 to 3 season, but think the PL is just a step to far. Burns has lost that half a yard since his injury, or PL defenders are just a lot faster. Chaplin hasn't looked good enough at this level. Pains me to say it, as we wouldn't be where we are today without him, but that is the stark reality. Luongo has been an amazing signing, but again, PL to much for him and his age. Al-Hamadi was signed as a Championship project. We don't have the time now to develop him into a PL striker. He will not get the minutes here he needs to develop. Again, I have taken all the sentiment out of it and gone with reality. Whoever goes, goes with my eternal thanks.

What is it with Woolfenden that you feel it necessary to make daft stuff up about him? He didn't want to go to Man City but still managed to play a decent 90 minutes. Bizarre.

I'd also like to know from others (who are maybe not as biased towards him as me, or biased against him either) whether Woolfenden really looked worse than the other players who were with us last year - Tuanzebe and, in spells, Hutchinson aside.

I'd slightly take issue on the Chaplin point; whilst I don't think he's a starter for us now, he shows real intelligence even at this level and does exactly what McKenna wants him to do. For me he's a specialist squad player now, not necessarily in the squad every week, but fine as back up and as I say capable of understanding and doing a very specific job under instruction off the bench.

Him and Burgess were more than decent last season and neither have let us down this year after stepping up. The dislike is completely irrational and not based on performances.

I think it's just specifics with wolfy which are kinda explained by oshea being signed. Both are solid players. Wolfy I think is the better close ball passer but oshea seems to be better at the longer passes. Heading oshea is well above I believe and speed is definitely a difference. That doesn't make wolfy a bad player. Just one that can do a job but there's someone better to do it.

If we want to sign permanent players in January on 18:11 - Dec 7 by GlasgowBlue | Wolfenden is an injury to O'Shea away from being an automatic starter. Now way does he go. Taylor is getting game time from the bench. Agree with Burns and Al Hamadi. I think Luongo stays as well. |

Whilst I appreciate this is probably Luongo's last season, he's reasonable backup and probably not overly expensive He certainly won't put a foot wrong if called upon Taylor is going to be an important player going forward forward for us, particularly if we are relegated Morsy isn't getting any younger and we don't keep Cajuste or Phillips, the central midfield worries me if we do go down

If we want to sign permanent players in January on 04:32 - Dec 8 with 526 views | LA_Tractor_Boy | There will be a few factors which determine who moves on in January, other than obvious ones like finding a buyer, agreeing a fee and having a replacement. Although our owners and management will do everything they can to stay up this season, we need to prepare for relegation too. And by January we'll have a pretty good idea about our chances of survival. 1. Despite McKenna's ability to improve players, IMO Harry Clarke, Taylor, Luongo, Burns and AAH do not have the potential to be PL standard. And clearly KMc doesn't think Woolfy has either given his lack of minutes. But if we're relegated, most of these players have proved they are good enough for the Championship. 2. Tuanzebe, Woolfy and Burgess are out of contract in the summer. I assume they have either rejected or not been offered new contracts. 3. Phillips is likely to return to Man City, but Cajuste may or may not be here next season depending on our status. So we need to be careful about offloading Taylor and Luongo. 4. Do the club think Baggott, Humphreys and Harness have a future at ITFC, all of who have contracts (or +1 year options) so will return in the summer. Edmundson will probably move on in January, as he's out of contract in the summer.
If we want to sign permanent players in January on 05:31 - Dec 8 with 515 views | PioneerBlue | For me the most natural places are where we need better cover and therefore space to improve or where we have gaps due to injury. Spaces based on injuries and current development seem most likely - : Tuanzebe - delist? depends on recovery projection : Ogbene - delist? depends on recovery projection : AAH - loan? That’s 3 spaces and enough to bring a bit of freshness to squad Small outside chance For game time between now and May but don’t know we need that many spaces to fill at this stage - : Taylor : Broadhead Very outside chance Only if they really wanted a move, could be short sighted if we turned up back in Champ in Aug which is why I can’t see it for Jan. : Wolf : Chaplin : Burns [Post edited 8 Dec 2024 6:22]

Chaplin??? Christ. He’s been one of our brighter players in recent games. Zero chance he’s off anywhere. He should starting every game as the 10.
