Delap…Nowhere near the finished article. 17:03 - Dec 8 with 3429 viewsITFC_84

Poor fouls given away.
Terrible game awareness.
Going to ground too easy.
Inability to play the simple pass.
Shattered by 50 mins.

He’s got a lot of learning to do.

Chap was dead on his feet for most of the second half.

The only decision of his I'll question was when he threw himself to the floor around half-way on the Cobbold side, seemingly trying to make a point about Kerkez having done the same to him a few minutes earlier. Very naïve, and the referee would have had every right to book him for a very very obvious dive.

You're comparing a 21 year old striker in his first full season of Premier League football and complaining that he is not the level of a 38 year old Veteran.

Jesus wept indeed.

Read again what I wrote...

"Experience will teach him what to chase and what to leave as it's a lost cause."

Where does it say that I think he should already be as savvy as Vardy? I'm pointing out that is a side of the game he needs to learn.

Delap was never meant to be the main striker, the fact he has had a good season is a bonus really

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!

Poor bloke was fked just coming onto the pitch.

I get we don't have a backup.. but wouldn't it make more sense to bench him. And if need him bring him on but if we don't then he's rested for the next game which is incredibly important.

We kinda need a hutch starting. But delap perhaps not as unless he's fit then alot bounces of him and he's not the threat you want him to be anyway.

You hit the nail squarely on the head.

The fact that he's come in and hit the ground running is the difference between our attempts at acquiring a starting number 9 in the summer being poor, and having been utterly suicidal.

We’ve played 14/15 games, no cup run… I know a lot is being asked during games, but I’m not too sure why he’s so shattered.
Hes an ultra fit young bloke.
90mins weekly shouldn’t be beyond the realms of possibility, should it? I mean, Leif does it…

He's a good player with lots of potential but our fans making him out to be worth 60m already was always nonsense and seems to have created a level of expectation that shouldn't be there.

If Hirst wasn’t injured he would have started one of the three games this week and Delap would have played less minutes. Of course he’s got a lot to learn, but I wouldn’t have wanted to sign any other player for that price in the summer.

You are actually largely correct. He is essentially a 21 years old kid, learning his craft in a team who were likely always destined to struggle. On whose young shoulders a lot rests right now. A young man giving it everything, learning in the most unforgiving league in world football. What else did we expect? The finished article? For £15mill odd? Get real. Support him, give him time, remember how well you performed at your job at 21- the finished article? I doubt it.

THIS!

I couldn't even regularly turn up to work on time at that age. I was a different person, professionally, 4 years later

And I got to do my job without millions of people watching.

Leifs has a few seasons of KM training now. His body is used to the intensity of the football. Delap Is having to get used to it which isn't a quick fix. It's why phillips still looks a pale of his former self as his body just isn't the same yet physically.

Also leif was a little while back top of the numbers for running but was also top on the numbers of minuted walking. He knows how to manage his body.

I’m not ‘not supporting him.’ Just merely noting that today (alongside the other 2 games this week) he’s been poor, made bad choices (some of which have directly lead to goals) and is still some way off being the finished article. Is that ok?

I think the number of down votes to your original post sums up your initial post quite well. Your tone wasn’t supportive. You may not have meant it that way, but like Delap I guess, you will learn. Just think a bit before posting. As I initially said, you are largely correct, but your tone didn’t sound like you had his back. Mine did. That’s the difference. Try and do better next time, that’s all we can ask of ourselves, and the players on the pitch.

You are aware that not all players are immune to criticism.

He had a poor game. Makes poor passing choices at times and has a long way to go before he’s the finished article. It’s not a personal attack. It’s a football opinion.

Get a grip.

Nowhere in your original post did you say your view was on the game today, rather you used language that implied it was your overall assessment of him as a player. Had you qualified it, you may have received less negative comment.

Yes, today he was not at his best for much of the game. He’s clearly been tired the last couple of games, as others clearly are too. We’re having to overextend some players, due to injuries, and it shows.
