Away dressing room at PR 11:09 - Dec 11 with 3371 views | FrimleyBlue | Anyone who has done the tour, did they give you access to the away dressing room? I wondered how it looks compared to the home, I know Ashton was saying they've been refurbished along with the home as he wanted it to represent the club etc, however, it's been said before that there are many grounds where away rooms are quite unwelcoming so I was just wondering what ours were like.

Away dressing room at PR on 11:27 - Dec 11 by _clive_baker_ | This has always been a pet hate of mine. Its not a new thing to make the environment as uninviting as possible for away sides, I've seen some really basic away changing rooms at very good grounds before and that's quite normal. Clubs engage sport psychologists in the design, changing details like the colours on the walls etc to try to get an advantage. Norwich painted theirs pink to try to lower the testosterone of visiting players and often control the temperature to different levels vs. the home dressing room. Call me old fashioned but I'm not about all that. |
Agree all a bit outdated and pathetic imo

Away dressing room at PR on 11:50 - Dec 11 by FrimleyBlue | Awesome bit of info, thanks Phil. Was it a size difference that lead to Jim changing or what the then away one better located to the pitch? |
They did a big refurb one summer, the players didn't know about it unil they came in for the friendly against Panathinaikos. The home dressing room is a bit labyrinthine as I think the showers were part of the old home dressing room, while the new away dressing room was expanded into the room next door.

Away dressing room at PR on 11:37 - Dec 11 by homer_123 | Away dresser is v basic, not even a clock! ;) To be honest, the home dressing room isn't great either - it's been 'done up' but is certainly nothing special in any way. |
I beg to dither on this my friend, our home dressing room is very plush with all mod cons , were you visiting someone else’s ground ?

Occasionally yeah, but not like other club chairmans, that was the agreement when I went in, that the club would run itself so that no one had to worry about it. one of the first things i did ( we had a function hall ), obtained a partnership with a childrens nursery which gave the club an extra .....k a year, that's still going I believe, so thats nice to see. Got a new groundsman whos still going now too, that was massive as the club had used the council before that.... I remember my very first FA Vase game, I turned up in the morning to get the ground ready, the pitch had been cut on the Friday...... they didn't bother to hoover up any cuttings, so I was out on the pitch at 7am raking off grass cuttings, will never forget seeing that. But my career at the time was sales, so I was heavy on obtaining sponsorships and my wife helped arrange functions to increase the cashflow. One club that i've mentioned for people to follow is Farnham, they have a new owner who's ploughing a sht load of money into them, currently top of step 4 i think after promotion from step 5 last season, went unbeaten for 53 games etc, they could very well be the next AFC Wimbledon, who played at Frimley green many moons ago...

Away dressing room at PR on 11:18 - Dec 11 by Sharkey | When Colchester's new stadium was built, the dressing rooms were identical. Lambert wasn't happy with that, and made the away one as grim as possible. Doesn't seem to upset Colchester's opponents too much ... but it is a bit embarrassing for the club when it hosts e.g. England U20 games. |
Didn’t John Beck at Cambridge in the early 90s go in for all that? No heating, cold water, only one lightbulb, no space, one working bog (not cleaned) and the old classic fetid water all over the floor? Actually, if ever you’ve done the Lords tour you’ll no doubt agree that the dressing rooms are very rudimentary and not that large for the amount of gear, support staff etc. they are meant to be some of the worst dressing rooms amongst the big, prestigious cricket grounds. They are limited by space in the old Pavilion and as the old buffer taking around said ‘This is Lords. It’s limited, but every player in the world wants to be here’. Fair enough.

"Out on the pitch at 7am raking off grass cuttings" That's the very epitome of grass roots level football that is Frimmers!
| Trust the process. Trust Phil. |

Away dressing room at PR on 13:04 - Dec 11 by sotd78 | I imagine any decent manager/coach can turn all this stupid "unwelcoming and obstructiveness" into a highly motivational tool. Not sure the "psychologists" have not forgotten the last part of their acronyms . Psycho seems more appropriate. I'd make the away room so comfy they wouldn't want to come out and get wet and cold. Not the other way round. |
Agreed. I’d lay on the best food, sofas, booze, a tv with a loop of all that team’s best performances, another with racing and a hotline to the bookies, vouchers for a free round of golf, vouchers for KFC if a Ebanks-Blake is playing, a discount on a mobility scooter for a Jonathan Douglas. Aya Napa free holiday for one of them - they decide. And of course women. Give them the best. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Good on you for giving your time back to your community Frimley. Without being too OTT I'm a firm believer that grass roots football does so much good to so many people. Way more than could ever be quantified or many people realise. Whether it be people's physical health, mental health, offering a place to meet others and socialise, local economic benefit, a way to get some energy out of people's systems, lessons in discipline and respect. All sorts of benefits. I reckon football has rehabilitated countless people, or at least prevented criminality.

It is brilliant, I did recommend it to a lot of the people I met when being a work coach a couple years back. Altho most jobs at non league are voluntary its still a route back into working. Getting used to routine and meeting people.
