Still, at least we have a new team to play: Latvia.

Serbia, Albania and Andorra are the other three.

England always seem to land boring, comfortable draws. Ireland's group looks tricky and Scotland could come a cropper in theirs. Group B looks the toughest one to call.

Well when you're a seed 1 team it's easily done, even more so now with the smaller groups. Should be easy, but it's probably a lot more Eastern-europeany than we would have wanted.

Should be a pretty comfortable 8 wins from 8 games.

Why not spare countries with proper leagues and heritage the trouble and let the rest scrabble around for qualification? By that I mean Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Holland, England, Portugal, Belgium, Croatia and North Macedonia (for their brilliant flag and kit) for arguments sake.

The smaller teams never play a tournament. They could have been playing one while the euros were on the pre qualify for the wc qualifiers. Such that the eventual groups were 4 countries each, not 5. They could have carried on to try to win a European shield or something as well. Then do the same for euro qualifiers or adapt nations league to cover that.

World Cup qualifiers are the MOST tedious things in football.
Utterly completely tediously pointless. So many awful games to find out that San Marino are no good at football.

And never likely to improve either.

I remember years ago Turkey were absolutely awful. England won 8-0 out there once from memory. Luxembourg another. Both nations, especially Turkey obviously have hugely developed over the last three decades.

San Marino by contrast have made no progress in 30 plus years.

They never will, the only chance any of these countries have is for a messi or ronaldo or even bale to be born there

Every extra game is a win for the organisers.
MONEY
Next World Cup is 76 teams or thereabouts.
Forget quality - think about the quantity. Keep the best players all the time till they get injured.
No problem get more new fit players.
need more. sell more. make more.

happy xmas

There’ll be a power shift in the next five to ten years; FIFA will get slapped down and no longer will domestic leagues get disrupted and put on hold so the best players in Europe can play against vegetable farmers from the middle of nowhere.

Absolute madness the power FIFA has. Scrap all international qualifiers asap. And friendlies too. Nobody wants them.

Did Israel qualify for Qatar?
Will they be allowed into Saudi if they qualify?

I know they've made some friendships with some of their richer Arab neighbours, but can't remember which ones.

Wouldn't surprise me if they're mates with Saudi given how keen they both are on human rights violations on an industrial scale.

I like them. Though I do agree with the idea that there perhaps should be a pre-qualifying tournament where some of the lowest teams are eliminated to reduce the number of games for the stronger nations.
