Not listened to as much new stuff as I'd like this year but the English Teacher album is the stand out for me, rinsed it for several months but it still sounds great and deserves all the plaudits its been getting.
Runners up - new albums by Jamie XX, WH Lung & Underworld.
Not their best album this year IMO but this single was glorious -

Sorry to ignore the rules of the OP, but Dubs did it first!
I can get it down to 5.
Michael Kiwanuka - Small changes. Ghost funk orchestra - A trip to the moon English Teacher - This could be Texas Jane Weaver - Love in constant spectacle Weller - 66
At a push I'd say Weller edges it, but I am a massive Wellend!
Single of the year is easier.

Fatdog's album, WOOF. "Running" from that album is incredible.
By some distance Bridge City Sinners- Age of Doubt.
What Pokey LaFarge would be if they'd grown up playing Warhammer and visiting tatoo parlours. The baddest Steampunk fiddle player in the world. Jazz / swing blues / folk / shanty alt punk. With vocals that move from stunning, to screaming and back. Is probably the best genre description....

Fatdog-Woof - (Wither) Amyl and the sniffers -Cartoon Darkness-(Big Dream)
'Fine Art' by Kneecap. Proper punk attitude couple to some astonishing innovative wordplay.
After that...probably 'Absolute Elsewhere' by Blood Incantation ..if you like death metal, Pink Floyd or Tangerine Dream, you should probably give this a listen. There's something here you'll enjoy.
or 'Bloom & Decay' by Dawn Treader
Fairly straight-cut black metal. Only with the novelty that it's really well produced and competently played.
or 'Funeral For Justice' by Mdou Moctar.
Probably the best guitarist in the world recording, right now.
Or 'Traumatc Upbringing' by Jazmine Bean
Terrific goth-pop from one of Ginger Wildheart's kids
Definitely one of these. Until I think of another one.

Linkin Park's new album by far.
The Emptiness Machine is a ridiculously good song. Absolute banger.

Absolutely love the new Underworld album - it's a thing of beauty.
Techno Shinkansen is such a good track.
Saw WH Lung in Norwich a few weeks back and they were magnificent. No encore though..

The Big Moon, Here is Everything, not quite this year as it was released December last year but near enough, great album and they are much better live than recorded.

I was at that WH Lung gig. A band that deserves to be so much more successful than they are.
Agreed!
Seen them a few times now and they don't disappoint.

absolutely love the english teacher album, but it's a close 2nd to vampire weekend for me. would also add in nia archives, nadine shah, primal scream and parannoul for honourable mentions
boringly, i'm in complete agreement with favourite for the song of the year!

1 divided by zero is technically infinite, so take it as a compliment!
It's an ongoing bit of banter with bloots on twitter, where he shares his knowledge of the bands I play. Usually knows lots of the older stuff, buy less hot on the newer bands.
