Away support and whingers 16:36 - Dec 19 with 3132 views | Generic | I normally sit near the front of the away section for the view, but at Spurs, Forest, and Wolves I've had next to me three right miserable gits. At Wolves, every member of our team was "a usless effing C", which was screamed relentlessly. The only exception was Cajuste who even this guy (and his son) could tell was playing well. Kieran was a UFC for replacing him with Jack Taylor, though (that aged well). The silver lining for me was that they left early and missed the winner 🤠Is it a coincidence, or should I move further back? [Post edited 19 Dec 2024 16:36]

There's about 12,000 die-hards who sat through all the Pauls and Roy. My support is enduring; I don't whinge. I might mutter gently under my breath.

I've always assumed things aren't going great in life and it's a kind of pressure valve for them. As I left Forest I told the one guy's friend that he had to get his mate a shag, as it just isn't healthy.

Funny how people are. I've definitely had times when I've been down and going to the football was a release - but mainly because it was a couple of hours where I could get out of my head, sing and be exuberant, maybe try and find some joy and wonder...

Maybe they've been going all these years too, but I don't see how anyone who was at Morecambe can be so spoiled as to expect us to be dominating PL away games. In Lg 1 I went to way more away games than home as the support was so much better and PR was (perhaps forgivably) a bit subdued. Maybe it will be different at Newcastle, Everton etc. The midlands and London are a bit too easy to get to from Ipswich (relatively). Brighton was better and Brighton's pretty hard to get to and away from if you're coming from Crawley, let alone anywhere else.

I suppose part of my question here is not actually about the underlying reason. Like you say, "opportunity to unload your anger/frustration on a stranger" is a plausible enough explanation for that. But presumably no one explains it to themselves like that? Seems unlikely that "I spend ÂŁ100s going all over the country to watch football because I hate my life and abusing strangers makes me feel better" is anyone's self-narrative of why they do something (well maybe if they're very honest, self-aware, in therapy etc.).

A while ago I was at a non-league game where the home side were 5-0 up. Every now and again a red faced old bloke in a flat cap and muffler would shout 'get a bloody grip!' | | | | Login to get fewer ads

Some people, myself included, just get too high when we win and too low when we lose. Surely you can understand some frustration given how frequently we have thrown away games in recent weeks?

No, we are in the Premier league our results are to be expected given the level we are competing at. The only game I've been annoyed about was Leicester, and that was the because the officials were utterly useless, not remotely about our performance. You watch Town for long enough you learn to appreciate the highs more and never get mad about the lows.

Results expected, throwing games away in the dying minutes bound to cause frustration

Personally don't think the results affect some people. I was stood next to someone the game after Burns scored his trivella goal who was dropping the c-bomb at him, screaming how useless he was and how he'd never score. There might be more complaining when the results aren't what we want them to be but for some people it's their default mode I think.

Well said. FWIW we may not have the best players but we certainly are a well oiled machine with the most intelligent manager you'll find anywhere in football.

I think he’s a bit happier now he’s got Chesterfield promoted.

Away support and whingers on 20:50 - Dec 19 with 1759 views | _clive_baker_ | Never ceases to amaze me. I was particularly unlucky at Wolves, the lad behind me (early 20's) was calling Burns a 'useless c' throughout. Even if you think that, shouting it when your team is playing is pathetic. Get behind the team or fook off.

Showing off to mates usually. Also the “free country” types who would cry if they had a complaint about them at work. I’ll bet cash money he was the type to vape and smell like cheap lady candles too. They’re far too common amongst all supporters I reckon.

You know what he actually wasn't very chavvy, looks a bit of a nerd actually. I recognised his face, he was doing that thing people do where they intentionally speak really loudly despite the fact the person they're talking to are stood right next to them, thinking everyone around them needs to hear their opinion. The Burns hate literally started on minute 1 and didn't stop all game.

Your experience of the lower Sir Bobby is very different to mine as I have been in there since it was re built and always find the fans around me pretty supportive apart from one chap and after being told the error of his ways he has been better of late .
