It's not even Muric's fault. It's the same pass we play every week and we've not made that mistake until now.
It's down to Cajuste, he strangely tries to take a touch and roll his man. Morsy just pops that off to O'Shea/Clarke in that situation when he gets it.
Yeah there's an argument for game management at that stage of the game, going into half time, but there's also the argument that pumping it long to Szmodics wasn't doing any good, and we had to keep trying to pass through them.

It's definitely on cajuste which pains me as I love him. But rule number 1. Don't try turn a player in or around the edge of your own box. As you say it's a quick 1 touch pass back or to the side. |  |

Muric should have seen that Cajuste was going to be pressured straight away (I haven't seen a replay but live I felt the pressing of the Newcastle player began before Muric released) and went for another option.
Unfortunately Cajuste doesn't have eyes in the back of his so he didn't know the pressing was so hard behind him (but arguably shouldn't call for it) and close but Muric has eyes in the front of his should have saw it coming and pumped it long.
Perhaps Cajuste could have done it better but with the way the match was it was a stupid ball and bad game management and Muric had a better view than anyone. [Post edited 21 Dec 2024 22:59]

Where's the anti KM fog? I'm defending both keeper and manager here. The only difference in the situation was cajuste turning rather than quick 1 passing the ball. That's literally it. There were 3 with morsy that made me gasp everytime. Suicide balls to me but again that's what was asked of him, morsy literally passed it back without a 2nd thought. | |

There's danger every time we play that pass though, that's the whole point. The issue here is Cajuste clearly doesn't have the awareness I'd expect Morsy to have to realise just how close the player pressing is, and/or is just silly enough to try and turn in that position. Agree. Not really anyone's fault. It's the sort of goal that you will concede when playing out from the back but we rarely do.
But for every goal like that we concede we've scored hundreds from sticking to the philosophy.

And yet if Cajuste plays the usual pass out to the RCB/RB first time, that goal doesn't happen.
I don't think the player receiving that pass in our team (Morsy generally) ever tries to turn there, it's suicide, you just play the first time pass. | |

It was a complete hospital pass from Muric, I'm not advocating banging it upfield but on occasion, especially on the brink of half time needs must. 2-0 at half time would be a challenge but 3 nil was game over. | | | |
