It's not even Muric's fault. It's the same pass we play every week and we've not made that mistake until now.
It's down to Cajuste, he strangely tries to take a touch and roll his man. Morsy just pops that off to O'Shea/Clarke in that situation when he gets it.
Yeah there's an argument for game management at that stage of the game, going into half time, but there's also the argument that pumping it long to Szmodics wasn't doing any good, and we had to keep trying to pass through them.
But players take the ball all the time on the edge of the area in that manner. Rarely in a situation like that are you going to make the run Cajuste makes and someone doesn't follow you.
Quite, and that is literally the point of the pass, isn't it? To pull in a player to create space. Don't quite understand the aversion to Muric doing it when we've done that exact pass probably a million times in the past two years, and we're absolutely not the only team doing it. Cajuste should've flicked it on first try and movement done.
All this crawing over kicking it long is mad. Kicked it long and Dan Burn would've just headed it back to the edge of our box immediately.
1. Clarke doesn't go back far enough to give Muric an option. And then stands there waving his arms about after the goal. 2. Obvious ball out is left back (Burgess) . Muric doesn't see it or has brain freeze. 3. I think Cajuste is going back to create space behind him - not specifically to receive the ball.
90% Muric 5% Clarke 5% Cajuste - he was a decoy as far as I can see - Was fkd even receiving the ball as bloke was all over him which Muric should have seen.

It beggars belief that some think this isn’t on Muric. When he makes the slow ponderous pass, Cajuste is very deep. Not only does that invite pressure but the angles are really tight and restricted. The fact that we’re getting hammered and it’s 2-mins from half time and we need to consolidate and re-group just shows how brain dead he is. We’ve seen his lack awareness on several occasions already this season.
The game was over after his mistake. Southampton have been punished repeatedly this season for the same mistake and it’s happening to us. Make the big call KM, Walton in.
What has Walton got to do to get a start??? Not that Arsenal and then Chelsea are great games for him to come into but maybe they’ll be blessings in disguise.

Walton didn’t get the nod to replace Hladky at a lower level so it’s very unlikely he’s now deemed good enough for this one. He had an ok game against Liverpool but did nothing to suggest he should play more in the cup games both this season and last.
Only way I see Muric not playing is if we go out and sign a GK in January which feels unlikely

What has Walton got to do to get a start? Be a good ball playing goalkeeper with his feet would be something. He clearly can't do it and McK knows that, that's why he hasn't been in the team for 2 years+.

The club gave Walton a new contract only three months ago. Seems a strange piece of business if they have no intention of playing him.

Burn wouldn't have got anywhere near it if Muric had kicked it into the stand and wasted some time so close to half-time.

…and on what basis has Muric shown he’s better than Walton? No nonsense stats about catches or saves either please. Last season Walton got injured and Hladky did well - there was no reason to change a winning team. This season Walton did well and Muric came in but we’re a losing team so why not make the change?
In my opinion, the longer this drags on, the weaker KM looks and the more likely we are to get relegated. Walton is a very good keeper irrespective of division. He’s well overdue a shot because he’ll be very hungry and determined and has proven he’s far less error prone. Walton in.
This is KMs first really big selection conundrum. I can’t think of another at this scale where’s he had to be ruthless.

"Tell me why Muric is better than Walton, but don't use anything useful like the amount of saves he makes"
