I don't think it would ever get to war.
Trump can't really lose by putting pressure on Denmark:
1. If Denmark invest in defence it helps the US re Russian and China encroachment and protects a strategically important site
2. Denmark don't invest, US can either invest via belt and road stuff or by even buying it which had been floated a few times over the last 150 years at some absolute steal of a price
3. If Denmark do nothing and don't let the US in at all he can garner support at home by thumping the table about Europe and Nato asleep at the wheel whilst the US pays a disproportionate amount of the bill of the latter
I'm not saying Trump is this smart but he's also not entirely stupid at influencing people and places very little value in textbook diplomacy |  |

It hasn't really been deemed a threat by Denmark. It's been deemed an aggressive suggestion to own and control it via purchase. Behind the scenes I'm sure they are also deeming it a suggestion to get on with investing in its infrastructure after Denmark have tbh neglected it.
As I stated, the US have floated this purchase a few times over the years. Even going back as far as the mid-19th century. I'm not sure anyone is seriously suggesting the US would just grab it one day. [Post edited 24 Dec 2024 23:16]

Not sure how you can decide what it has been deemed as. Public statements are not a reflection of genuine positions.
This was offensive, bullying, and dangerous. They can offer to purchase. But to say that ownership and control "is essential", is a threat. However you want to excuse it.
When a loon like Trump says that, and simultaneously threatens to take chunks of Panama, it is right to be troubled.

It would seem that he’s yet another ‘might is right’ merchant, which is why he has so much time for Putin and Kim Jong Un.
He’s a very dangerous man and even hinting about stealing other countries’ territory is out of order, even if you do find the Beano intellectually challenging. It’s probably all wind and p£ss but just talking about it is wrong to me - not least because I’ve always held a view the you should never ever issue a threat without being prepared to carry it out and never have.
