Muric/ Slicker sub... 18:17 - Jan 12 with 5526 viewsFunge

... what was all that about?

Would simply seem to cup-tie Slicker; not a massive issue, I suppose, but a genuinely weird sub.

Take the focus of Ali’s penalty miss and Philogene signing for Everton presumably.

That is supposing that he goes out on loan. He won't be.

Don’t know why they did the sub but I suppose if he does go on loan I doubt it is to a team that is still in the cup (or has great ambitions in it).

....we'd flogged him.

Probably to a Scottish club for a nominal fee, and it was a "goodbye" type appearance thing.

But KM didn't infer that when asked.

Gets him a medal when we win the whole thing. KM looking after all the squad players.

Yeah fair comment; just an unusual sub....

I didn’t think so - just giving the whole squad a chance to play, which is pretty standard?

Think it’s clear that Muric isn’t our nailed on starter, and presumably KM wants backup should either he or CW (heaven forbid) get injured, plus we probably want to reserve any dosh for a 9, not another keeper.

Slicker is realistically not going to go to any of the teams still in the cup, doubt it’s an issue. Probably wants to reward him with some minutes

Only times I can remember us making a non-njury enforced keeper sub before, were in the Exeter and Huddersfield games to give Hladky and Walton respectively a chance to soak up a little adulation at the end of very successful seasons.

Obviously very different circumstances today.

Wasn’t it his competitive debut for us. No issues my end for doing it . KMC always talks so well about him

It’s quite possible Slicker will be needed in earnest for a league game or two this season methinks - either because we desperately need more consistency/reliability if Muric continues with clangers or, perhaps more likely, the illness bugs that have manifested a couple of times this season recur, so we need to give him first team time in preparation.

.....I assume they are hoping that he's gonna grow about 6 inches over that 4 year period then.

Because otherwise it seems a relatively pointless contract from our perspective.

The best things sometimes come in smaller than average sizes. I'd have thought you'd realise that by now

The guy is 6'3, 22 years old and recently been called up to the full Scotland squad despite not playing 1st team football. He's clearly highly rated by club and country. I'd say that was plenty of reasons to extend his contract.

Didn't realise GKs had to be 6'9 to be successful these days

The guy is incredibly highly rated.

It wouldn't surprise me within a few years if he is our number 1 but he needs to go out and get football now.

Probably to get experience and a taste of playing in front of a big crowd, albeit for 15mins.

Moments of exposure like this is what he needs for his development if we view him as a number 1 here in the future. Whilst he's highly rated, you don't know how he would react mentally in front of a big crowd. At 3-0 there's no pressure, but go and enjoy it and get that appearance under your belt.

I still think he moves out on loan this January. He needs to be playing now.

Makes sense coming on for the experience especially 3 nil up and the game petering out. The Rovers forum mentioned it, saying looked like a fan had won a raffle! Ha ha...

The commentator on Optus Sport was very critical.

In short - Very unusual. Disrespectful to Muric bearing in mind just dropped from the first team. Many players would be banging on the managers door the next morning.
Disrespectful to Rivers.

He was very complimentary of Town up to that point.

To give him some minutes in front of a big crowd as a reward for working hard in training etc
