Brighton's gamesmanship/cheating tonight 21:27 - Jan 16 with 6517 viewsDubtractor

So much diving, feigning injury and time wasting.

Horrible team.

I was born underwater, I dried out in the sun. I started humping volcanoes baby, when I was too young.

Pedro up front was worse. Spent more time on his back waving at the ref than on his feet. Then clatters the Walton.

It's modern day Premier League Football.

It's atrocious and seems to be getting worse

But if we had those players then we would love them.

It’s the sort of thing you only used to see in the european competitions. Now it’s every game.

Watching their antics for every corner is so sad, real anti football but seems to be the way, arsenal the same

People might not like what Btighton did to ight - cheating/ gamesmanship/ managing the game etc etc .... but when are we going to stop being so naive and apply the same tactic.

You can say, you wouldn't ever want us to adopt a similar approach but if it meant we a achievedpoints ( or didn't throw them away!), you do it wouldn't you?

Or do we go down singing " but we can hd our heads up because we played an honest game", whilst those around us survive, because they didn't.

I would hate it if we did what brighton did tonight, whatever league we were in.

People say that but when we had Tarricco no one really complained about his gamesmanship. Or even Alan Lee or Dyer who went to ground easily.

Delap barges into defenders and is fully capable of over reacting to contact but that’s ok. Some do get previous in terms of gamesmanship from the opposition but ignore it when we do it.

It was a real pity. They were good enough not to need to resort to that.
I’ve never seen a team spend such a long cumulative amount of time on the ground without a physio coming on.

Very effective tactic. It’s called running down the clock . They did it from about 60mins onwards either great effect, and very disruptive to any game plan we may have had . We’re very naive in that respect and it’s costing us.

Plenty of it in the first half too.

I'm just wondering, if it is "normal", in the Premier League, to over-exaggerate any contact, eg a tap on the leg requires the player to throw themselves on the floor, or fingers catching the throat require eyes to be flushed out with saline solution.

Then what would be the appropriate "Premier League exaggeration" by Walton after the attempt to knock him out?

Lie completely still for three minutes? Kneck brace? Spine board? Maybe even the funny little golf cart thing? He should have given it the full works!

And then VAR would have looked at a possible Red Card.

they were doing it from minute 1, I was beginning to wonder in the first half if theyd come hoping for a draw the amount of time wasting they doing, and we still only ended up with 1minute of added time.

yet I guarantee more than 1 minute was wasted in the amount of time per free kick, per corner, per throw, per goal kick, they took.

The biggest prick was the one who went down like he’d been shot, saw the ball come his way so half got back up to try and keep it in near the corner flag and failed, so went down like he’d been shot again. The ref had absolutely no b0llocks to do anything about it either.

FWIW I didn’t think the foul on Walton was that bad. Thought a yellow was about right.

I remember the moaning we used to get on here about opposition "5hithousery" when we were in L1 but what we get now is on a different level,

I was there when McKenna's ITFC won in the Premier League at Home. Fewest home wins and equal most home defeats in a season in ITFC history.

not like that I dont think we do, McKennas teams have been too honest for their own good at times. Im not saying they dont appeal for nothing free kicks, or occasionally get given them too very easily, still think Delaps penalty was generous against Chelsea.

but you had that Brighton player who goes down in a heap, waving to the ref to stop the game, the ball comes near him, like Lazarus he recovers leaps up and tries to stop it, misses, and then collapses in a heap again and waits for the ref to stop the game, which he does.

vs Phillips, who clearly pulled something when he went for a challenge on a loose ball, and was injured, who doesnt stay down, gets up, was hopping around for at least 2mins as walking wounded, when we were under pressure and we are basically down to 10 players because he cant even walk let alone put in a challenge for the ball or do the role he was assigned. why did no one tell him lie down, and then kick the ball out, get the physio on, waste some time, relieve the pressure and get the subs on.

we didnt even do a tactical injury this game like we normally do, when someone sits on the pitch and the rest go and have a chat with McKenna, whilst the ref is oblivious to what we're doing.

it might be effective, but Im not sure Id enjoy watching Town play like Brighton did tonight.

As much as I agree, I'd also suggest we need to wise up to it a bit more... it's happened quite a lot in home games, opposition players will shield the ball, await contact, we are then a tad over eager, initiate contact that they have been waiting for and then no matter how soft it might be they go down and the ref gives it...

A ref like last night, who was picky as hell will always blow for that, what was annoying is Brighton were guilty of blatant fouls and he didn't give it.. just want consistency

The fact that you're highlighting individuals from 25 years ago should tell you about the culture at this club.

And even then, Lee's diving was cringeworthy. I don't recall Dyer being particularly bad for diving. Taricco was a bit of an exception.

But my main point was that this behaviour was across the whole Brighton team, from minute one. It's a part of modern football that I despise.

Was that your feelings when Delap went down to win our two pens recently with minimal contact? He could've easily stayed on his feet in both scenarios.

Whilst I can see the argument that both those penalties were at the soft end of things, I wouldn't say either were a dive.

The Chelsea one I think his momentum took him over as much as any keeper contact, whereas Fulham was just a coming together. Not sure how he could possibly have stayed on his feet for the Chelsea one, seeing as he was at full stretch in the first place to get the ball, and therefore already not on his feet!

Oh come on, Chelsea was a massive dive. He's looking for the contact. Fulham maybe, but again, it's minimal contact.

We don't have as many foreign players so we're of course no where near the level of Brighton for simulation and perhaps that's on us to wise up.

It’s worse in this league than any other over the last couple of seasons without doubt

I really detest this league. I understand the importance of being part of the Premier League financially and the rewards thereafter but ffs …. It’s an awful place to reside for the fan of a lower placed team

I’d go as far to say , I really hate this league but perhaps if we could consolidate our position over a couple of seasons and become a “seasoned” Premier League team my thought process might change BUT I very much doubt it because we would still have the same issues as we have now

So what’s the answer ? I just know I want the best that we can be in whichever league it is

Suck it up as they say
