I had to check, he joined Swindon March 91, the game in question was in Sept 91 and we didn't get going until we beat Blackburn just after Christmas.

We lost 4-1 and Hoddle was ridiculously good that night.

This is so right. Tragic we did not build a national side around him. In my opinion, the most gifted English player of the last 50 years. That's a big statement but he was a genius.

I was at that game. Watching Hoddle was like watching a dad join in with the kids on the park, albeit obviously much better.

I was in the north that night with my first lovely back in high school days. She was a scummer and had their bloody shirt on with a jumper over the top. My bottom was nipped up most of that evening as I was concerned that someone would notice and accuse me. Fortunately no one did.

Needless to say I dumped her within a year.
