still being hunted and figure of £50 million, or thereabouts (higher rather than lower) has been touted as enough to complete the deal.

Chelsea sources confirming that Delap on 18:44 - Jan 22 by NeverSayDie

In fairness, I did look at the site in a bit more detail and they point out that all their writers are “qualified journalists” as well as fans, so assumed they weren’t likely to be spouting nonsense.

"Chelsea approach Liam Delap’s agent for the second time in January

Respected journalist Simon Phillips has claimed via his Substack on Tuesday morning that Chelsea have now approached the agents of Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap for the second time in the current January transfer window.

It is explained that the Blues have been seriously considering trying to sign the 21-year-old Premier League striker this month.

Phillips adds that Ipswich insists the English frontman isn’t available in the mid-season window. However, Delap himself is ‘keen’ on the move to Stamford Bridge."

"EXCLUSIVE! Chelsea make approach to Premier League player's agent for move this month!

Things are most certainly heating up in what was supposed to be a very quiet transfer window for Chelsea.

But something has switched, and moves are being made now; at least Chelsea are trying to make moves now. Some of these might still have to wait until the summer, but in terms of intentions, Chelsea are very much now trying for a few moves that would have waited until the summer just some weeks back."

The bloke is barely literate.

Respected by who exactly?

The one time we all want a Phil Ham told there's nothing in it special.

Don't see it mid season personally

Me either. I'm sure he'll be the subject of bids in the summer.

Much of whether or not he moves on will depend on if McKenna stays and if we are in the Prem or not.

So we paid 20 million for him and isn’t there a 20% sell on clause. So I can’t see that 50 million is a very good deal for us. Considering he goes we virtually write of the season.

Also he would be better of staying until at least the end of the season and playing every week as opposed going to Chelsea and spending a fair bit of time sat on the bench. His career would be best served staying at Town at least in the short term.

Chelsea Chronicle regurgitating speculation from a random substack:

https://substack.com/@siphillips978482?

27k followers to be fair but he's speculating:

“Our sources say there has been contact all month and it continues – but Ipswich are still keen to hold onto Delap until the summer. It would take a big-ish offer for now (probably north of £50m), but it’s not impossible.”

I would be surprised if every club in the Prem doesn't have 'contact' during the transfer windows. Especially a club like Chelsea who will likely have 6-10 players available for loan/sale with their current numbers and Jan targets they will bring in.

SImon Phillips is reliable to be fair, he's been reporting a week or so back that Chelsea had spoken to his agent and team for second time this month but been told that he isn't interested in the move in January.

As their desperation gets more, having watched Jackson on Monday you can see why as looks well out of sorts, it's not beyonf the realms of possibility that they just want to get ahead of the summer market, and make a ludicrous bid for him that we can't turn for a number of reasons (well above what he is worth, it's so big and personal terms so big that players head is well and truly turned, etc)

Best thing we can hope for is Jackson to score a couple of goals, Nkunku to look sharp off the bench - worst case is a Jackson injury which sees Chelsea pulling levers to make it work that kills us

I just don't see us selling him. What is 'well above what he is worth' in this transfer window? It is literally signing a relegation warrant. Cost of relegation is in excess of £100m. We are going to struggle to sign one striker of a decent calibre let alone two.

Can't see him going in this window, but if he was to, it would only be for mad money well in excess of £50. The only club likely to offer it would be the club that already paid mad money for Lavia, Mudryk, Nkunku & Jaoa Felix; arguably, Delap is far less of a risk for a £70m+ outlay than any of those players were, and he is needed for them atm.
Maybe a deal with a couple of young players with huge potential thrown in (eg Chukwuemek & Guiu) might appeal to McKenna's coaching instincts, but it is still too much of a risk, and his priority has to be this season & avoiding the drop. Our chances are significantly lessened if we lose Delap now.

I don't see it either. Club has been consistent that they have no interest in selling in January and the player has no interest in moving on. Other than if he was agitating to go, I don't see any way of it happening. There seems to be no sign of that. As far as I've seen, there's been one Chelsea journalist stoking the reports and no one else.
