McKenna's gut feeling 13:55 - Jan 31 with 4005 viewsTresBonne

"But my feeling is players here will be the ones we'll complete season with."

Hmm, I do worry that we're looking unlikely to pick up a third striker - if one of ours gets injured, then we're going to have to rely on either one of them who barely ever finish 90 minutes, maybe for an extended period of time...

I'm no wordsmith, but a point of order: "I do worry" and "looking unlikely" are very gentle, highly qualifying phrases. you brute.

Regardless, they're still doom-mongering. I may have taken things out on the OP somewhat, due to the sheer volume of posts along the same lines (from various people, the OP's being the latest). Judging by the up-arrows my post received, it seems others agree.

What’s massively negative about saying Hirsts injury record hasn’t been great here? Or that we had a number of months with just Delap?

Surely, and please tell me if I’m wrong, but both of those are just facts?

You're making a straw man to knock down. That's not the bit people are complaining about.

So who do you think we will get in before the deadline? Have you been looking at Kylian Mbappe pillow and duvet sets on Amazon?

No idea. I'm just saying the deadline's a few days away and McKenna's words mean nothing. Chill.

How is anyone possibly downvoting this thread? NOT signing a 3rd striker is nothing short of a car crash scenario.

a) No it's not.
b) The window isn't shut yet.
c) People are complaining about the analysing of McKenna's words and deciding that's that.

Trust the process. Trust Phil.

Bit of a harsh response. I'm not doom-mongering at all. I merely commented an opinion from what the manager said.

If you think I've thrown any toys out, you should try reading some of the other posts on here!

This.

Also it is a bit concerning what he said, but in KM we trust or something.

This thread is this forum in a microcosm. Someone shares a thought or opinion that isn't particularly outrageous, some may agree, some may have a different opinion, a good post you would think for a forum where fans discuss their views on topics relating to the club, but instead it just turns into a few posters sniping at each other and any posts about the actual topic just get lost in the melee.

I don't know if it would be that much of an issue if we don't sign another CF, it's obvious we can't improve on Delap, and we will always play one central striker, so the signing would be a backup, I'm happy with Hirst being that rotation option, and as we now have so much depth in the positions off the striker we do have the option to use Szmodics or Encisco up front (I think earlier in the season we would have used Szmodics in rotation with Delap when Hirst was out, but the issue was it weakened us a lot to move Szmodics off the left, that wouldn't be the case now).

I think if the right player became available then another high quality CM would make more of a difference to us than another CF

Agreed.

Delap looks set to miss two games, best case scenario. Lose him for lots and we're probably stuffed, whether we sign a new #2/#3 or not.

Losing Hirst is a definite risk, but we have different types of strikers available and would at least be fielding a top half PL player for 70'+.

There is a chance that this remains our strongest position for most of the remaining 15 games. Compare that to CM and I think we begin there much weaker. Do we have a midfielder in with a shout of starting at a club in the top 16 of the table? Maybe a fully fit Cajuste.

People = 1 person.

And in this thread, that’s my contribution, so assumed he/she meant that post. If others were pointed out I’d be more than happy to bulk out the posts to show why I’ll have said what I have.

It seems a risky strategy, can Enciso cover as the 3rd striker?

Alcohol is the answer but I can't remember the question!
