Can't think I'm alone on here in doing mine today. Just finished it, about 5 hours work. But saved up 5 years' worth of professional subs that I can reclaim tax on, should pay for next year's season ticket at least.
I was actually really on top of my 23/24 return and got it in early 2 days ago.
Did mine on 28th but delayed payment till yesterday evening - then found my bank's online system down! So had to write HMRC grovelling apology just now for being 0.45 minutes late - the b'ds had better not try to issue me with a penalty for that - watch this space ...

You have more balls than me! I paid what I owed with in 1.5 seconds of my return going in.
Good luck with HMRC and being on hold for at least 45 mins with every phone call (although to be fair when I did eventually get to talk to them in the past, when I needed to, the staff are very good).

I think you get till the 1st March to pay before they hit you with a fine. Well I hope so as I haven't paid mine yet 😅
Can I just ask, why have you (and loads of other) left it to the last minute?
The most common answer from my.clients is "because I dont want to pay it earlier"
Just for anyone struggling to pay, ring HMRC and arrange a payment plan as soon as you can. HMRC are absolutely useless on most things, but on this they seem to be pretty good!
Basis period reforms have made this tax submission ie 23/24 tough.
I managed to get there with every person I help out but it took lots of planning and endelss chasing of other advisors. I can't really even face the game today so am just listening on the radio with coffee.
Because its a miserable task and a depressing thought. Human nature tends to put off dealing with such things.
Conversely, because it is a pain, I tend to do it early on to get it out of the way. I also use the payment plan to actually pay it by instalments in advance (based on previous year's income). So there aren't nasty lump sums to find every July and Jan. One reason is if I was to put aside the money in my own bank account, I would not trust myself not to dip into it and leave myself short come the deadline.
In my experience Interest is charged once it falls due (yesterday) and it was at a lot higher rate than bank rate
I made the mistake of paying off most of my credit card a few days ago, might have been cheaper to let that go and pay my tax due earlier. Having said that, in 20 years of online banking (two using the app which is excellent), I'd never before encountered any problem at their end which resulted in my being unable to make a payment for several hours. Sod's law innit.

Probably not. I think credit card interest is likely to be higher than the rate HMRC set.
